If you’re someone who enjoys a warm cup to start the day, this might just spark your interest.
There’s something new brewing quietly in local homes that’s receiving attention—again.
It may not come from a trendy café, but the story behind it just might surprise you.
A win that’s caught the nation’s attention
ALDI’s exclusive Lazzio coffee range has once again been crowned Australia’s best at the prestigious 2025 Golden Bean Australasia Awards.
It secured the top spot in the Overall Large Chain Champion category—for the second year in a row.
And the best part? You can enjoy a cup for as little as 18 cents.
Now, we understand the hesitation. ‘Supermarket coffee? Really?’ But this isn’t just any blend.
Lazzio coffee is roasted locally in Melbourne by the award-winning Black Bag Roasters, who have partnered with ALDI for more than a decade.
In fact, they roast a staggering 75 tonnes of coffee every single week to meet the demand from coffee-loving Australians.
A brew above the rest
The Golden Bean Awards are far from a casual nod. They’re the largest coffee roasting competition in the world—bringing together the most skilled in the industry.
For ALDI to take out the top prize six times in the past seven years is a remarkable achievement.
Industry leaders say the win reflects ALDI’s decade-long commitment to quality, value and locally roasted coffee.
ALDI Australia’s buying director, Daniel Quinlan, shared his thoughts on the achievement: ‘This win is a proud reflection of the consistent quality and value ALDI delivers to customers across their grocery shop, including the perfect beans for their morning brew. Roasted in Melbourne, our Lazzio coffee range brings a premium café experience home. It’s clear Australians appreciate great coffee at a great price—and we’re proud to deliver exactly that.’
Lance Brown, director of sales at Black Bag Roasters, part of the Nomad Coffee Group, added: ‘This is an amazing achievement to win this award for the sixth time! A huge thank you to ALDI for allowing us to do what we do best over our decade-long partnership. We truly believe life’s way too short for bad coffee and we’re proud to create great-tasting coffee that Australians can enjoy.’
This year alone, the Lazzio range won eight medals across several categories, including ‘Large Chain-Store Espresso’ and ‘Large Chain-Store Milk’. That’s a lot of recognition for a humble supermarket product.
Why Lazzio coffee is winning hearts (and taste buds)
So, what sets Lazzio coffee apart?
It begins with the beans—premium quality and responsibly sourced. Black Bag Roasters ensure freshness by roasting locally in Melbourne.
Whether your taste leans towards a mellow medium roast, a rich dark blend, or something more adventurous like the Single Origin Brazil or Colombia beans, there’s something for everyone.
And for those who prefer something more exclusive, ALDI is constantly innovating.
Two new additions—the Lazzio Luxe Reserve Single Origin Guatemala and Ethiopia beans—have already received gold and silver medals at the Golden Bean Awards.
They’ll be available in stores from 23 July.

I have tried the Lazzio Dark Ground Coffee 500g and didn’t like it. Being dark I thought it would be quite strong, but it wasn’t.
