ALDI’s new Pyrex-style glassware delivers big savings for savvy shoppers

For generations, Australians have relied on trusty glass storage containers—Pyrex is the gold standard—to keep leftovers fresh and visible. But as anyone who’s shopped for Pyrex lately knows, quality comes at a price.

That’s why ALDI’s latest kitchenware release is causing such a stir: a near-identical glass storage set for less than half the cost of the big-name brand.

ALDI has launched its budget-friendly Freshlock bowls, offering sets of six for $14.99, about half the price of Pyrex, making them ideal for storing leftovers and reducing food waste. Credit: ALDI

ALDI’s reputation for delivering affordable alternatives to popular products is well-earned, and their latest offering is no exception.

The Crofton 12-piece glass bowl set is hitting shelves this week as part of the limited-time ‘ALDI Finds’ range and is already making waves among savvy shoppers.

Available in both round and rectangular shapes, each set includes six glass bowls and six snap-on, locking lids—all for just $14.99. That’s about $2.50 per bowl, compared to the $50+ you’d pay for a similar Pyrex set.

But there’s a catch: these sets are only available for one week, or until they sell out. And if ALDI’s track record is anything to go by, they won’t last long.

So, what’s the fuss about? Like Pyrex’s popular Freshlock series, ALDI’s Crofton bowls are made from clear glass, making it easy to see what’s inside—no more mystery meals lurking in the back of the fridge.

The snap-on plastic lids create a tight seal, helping keep food fresher longer and preventing dreaded fridge spills.

ALDI’s set even comes with a dry-erase marker, so you can label your containers with dates, meal names, or cheeky reminders (‘Eat me first!’). This slight touch will appeal to anyone who’s ever lost track of leftovers or prepped meals in advance.

For many, glass storage isn’t just a trend—it’s a return to the tried-and-true methods of our parents and grandparents. Glass is non-porous, so it won’t absorb odours or stains the way plastic can.

It’s also microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe (remember to remove the lids before heating), making it a practical choice for busy households.

And let’s not forget the environmental benefits. Glass containers are reusable, recyclable, and free from the chemicals sometimes found in plastics. Investing in a good set can help reduce single-use plastic waste and save money in the long run.
