If you’ve ever spent a Saturday morning scrubbing away at stubborn marks on your walls, only to throw in the towel (sometimes literally), you’re not alone.
Scuff marks, mystery stains, and that inexplicable grime that seems to appear out of nowhere are the bane of every Australian home.
One $6.98 Australian-made product from Bunnings has gained attention among both professional cleaners and households for its versatility.
Gumption is a multi-purpose cleaner that Australians now use for a variety of household cleaning tasks.
Professional cleaner Charlotte Bosanquet from Care Cleaning Services Sydney knows a thing or two about tough stains. After years of battling marks that just wouldn’t budge—especially during end-of-lease cleans, where a single scuff can cost renters their bond—she stumbled upon Gumption at Bunnings. The result? ‘It changed my life!’ she says.
Charlotte swears by Gumption for its ability to tackle just about any mark, especially on walls. ‘It gets any mark off, and I’ll live by that; I’m so confident in it. It’s so good on walls. I use it on scuff marks or any stubborn marks or spillages that nothing else will remove.’
Its uses go beyond just wall cleaning. Gumption’s mildly abrasive formula makes it a go-to for a range of cleaning challenges around the house.
It works wonders on walls, easily removing marks from suitcase bumps and chair scrapes with just a dab on a damp cloth and a gentle rub.
Stainless steel sinks in both kitchens and laundries can also be revived, with Gumption cutting through discolouration that regular cleaners can’t handle.
For cupboards and drawers marked by saucepans, baking trays, or daily use, Gumption is equally useful. While some users claim it works on shower screens and dirty glass, Charlotte advises caution—though it has worked in a pinch, she notes it can be grainy and may smudge, so it should be a last resort for glass surfaces.
It’s not just the professionals who are singing Gumption’s praises—everyday users are just as enthusiastic. Online reviews are filled with glowing testimonials about the product’s versatility and effectiveness.
In the kitchen, it tackles ovens and oven doors effortlessly—grease and baked-on grime are no match, especially when paired with a metal scourer that won’t scratch the glass.
One reviewer raved, ‘I’m pretty sure this product sells itself. Can be used to clean various things, I’ve used it on piano keys, pots, pans and baking dishes.’
Another shared how Gumption has been a lifesaver on the job: ‘Gumption has saved me many times, placing down lights into freshly painted ceilings, this is a must-have for sparkies.’
Echoing the sentiment, a satisfied customer simply called it ‘my best friend around the house.’
Gumption has been widely used in Australian households for various cleaning tasks, with both professionals and everyday users praising its effectiveness across a range of cleaning tasks. While results may vary depending on the surface and method used, it’s evident that this $6.98 cleaner has earned a loyal following.

My God – actually something made in Australia that us Aussies can afford – well done. We live in the country, but, as soon as we can get to Bunnings we will purchase this product. Hopefully as good as written about.
Good lord, what a ridiculous fuss. Gumption is about a zillion years old, available at Woolworths and Coles forever.
