Fairytale finds land at The Reject Shop—will you take them home?

If you thought Kmart was the only place to score affordable, on-trend homewares, think again.

The Reject Shop has just dropped a whimsical new collection that’s got Australian bargain hunters buzzing—and it’s giving the big names a serious run for their money.

The latest range, which officially hit shelves on 28 May, is a playful, fairytale-inspired collection that takes its cues from Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter’s tea party.

If you love a pop of colour and a dash of quirky charm in your home, this is your moment. The collection is already causing a stir, with shoppers flocking to stores and sharing their finds on social media.

So, what’s all the fuss about? The ‘frabjous’ collection (yes, that’s a word straight from Lewis Carroll’s world) is packed with delightful details.

Think mushroom-shaped bowls and cake plates for just $5, teacups and saucers at $8, and glass magnet sets for $5.

There’s even a striped toilet brush ($12.50) that’s guaranteed to make your bathroom a little less dreary and a lot more fun.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. The range also features scalloped plates reminiscent of high-end brands like No.22 and In The Roundhouse, but at a fraction of the price.

Each piece is stamped with cheeky phrases such as ‘We’re All Mad Here’, ‘Eat Me’, and ‘Oh My Ears And Whiskers How Late It’s Getting’—perfect for anyone who wants their home to tell a story (or at least spark a conversation at your next high tea).

Other highlights include a mushroom-themed lazy Susan, soap dispensers, and ‘Hatter’ tumblers that are tipped to be sell-out hits.

The best part? These pieces are designed to mix and match, so you can create your own wonderland at home without breaking the bank.

Shoppers are already raving. ‘Every week I’m absolutely stunned by what I’m discovering at The Reject Shop,’ said one fan, Clare Jane, on social media.

Another added, ‘They understood the assignment this week. Get the girls together for a high tea mad hatters edition this Sunday.’ And with prices this good, why not?

This isn’t the first time The Reject Shop has wowed us with designer-inspired collections.

The store has been steadily upping its game, taking on the likes of Kmart and Target with affordable, stylish homewares that don’t compromise on personality.

And with the recent $259 million acquisition by Canadian retail giant Dollarama, things are only set to get bigger.

The deal promises an expansion of up to 700 new stores nationwide, meaning more Australians will have access to these fabulous finds.

Of course, not everyone is convinced that bigger is always better. Some loyal fans have voiced concerns that the takeover could mean higher prices or a shift away from the quirky, affordable products they love.

‘Gosh… they better keep their low prices or I will never shop there again,’ one shopper warned on social media.

Another added, ‘If they change the type of products that The Reject Shop sells I’m going to be so mad because the strawberry collection of plates and bowls are everything to me.’

But retail experts are optimistic. According to Professor Nitika Garg, a consumer behaviour researcher at UNSW, the buy-out is a strong vote of confidence in the Australian retail sector.

‘Healthy competition between budget retailers is ultimately a win for Australian shoppers,’ she says.

‘It pushes companies to improve quality, keep prices low, and deliver better value.’

Plus, the influx of capital could drive innovation, expand local operations, and create more jobs—a win for the broader economy.

For now, The Reject Shop is keeping its cards close to its chest about future plans, but a spokesperson has hinted at more luxury-inspired collections on the horizon.

‘We have some very exciting homewares collections coming up throughout the year and cannot wait to share them with our customers,’ they teased.
