A new food recall has been announced, with serious health risks for older Australians, pregnant women, unborn babies, and those with weakened immune systems.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has issued an urgent warning after the product was found to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes—a type of bacteria that can cause a potentially severe infection known as listeriosis.
The product in question is Fresh Frontier’s Spicy Chicken Mango Pasta Salad, sold in both 300g and 500g packs, with a use-by date of 17 May.
While listeria infection is relatively rare, it can be extremely dangerous for certain groups. According to FSANZ, ‘Listeria monocytogenes may cause severe illness in pregnant women, unborn babies, neonates, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.’
If you recently bought a ready-made salad—especially from IGA or Farmer Jack’s in Western Australia—check your fridge.
Fresh Frontier’s Spicy Chicken Mango Pasta Salad with the affected use-by date should not be consumed. Return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
If you’ve already eaten it and feel unwell, particularly if you’re in a high-risk group, seek medical advice promptly.
This is not the first time Fresh Frontier has issued a recall due to listeria concerns. In 2023, the company had to pull its chicken bacon pasta salad from shelves for the same reason.
Food recalls can be unsettling, but they play a vital role in maintaining food safety. By staying alert and following recall advice, you can help protect yourself and your loved ones from foodborne illness.
