Is your pantry safe? Five urgent recalls shaking up supermarkets this week

It’s been a big week for product recalls in Australia, with a string of everyday essentials pulled from the shelves at Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and more.

Many products have been affected, from the milk in your morning cuppa to the teething powder you might use for the grandkids. If you’ve done a shop recently, it’s worth checking your pantry, fridge, and garage to ensure you’re not holding onto something that could risk your health or safety.

Let’s break down the latest recalls, what’s at stake, and what you should do if you find one of these products at home.

Several products were recalled this week, including milk sold at Cowhat’sd’ Woolworths and a baby item from ALDI. Credit: Zamrznuti tonovi/Shutterstock

1. Weleda Baby Teething Oral Powder

This one’s important for those with little ones in the family. Weleda Australia has recalled one batch of its Baby Teething Oral Powder after a glass fragment was found in a bottle.

The affected batch is (B)231302, expiry 11/2026, sold at Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, Harris Farm Markets, and other retailers. No other batches are affected, but if you have this product at home, check the batch number carefully.

If the powder is from the affected batch, stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. If you’re worried your child may have ingested any, consult your GP for peace of mind.

2. ALDI Coolabah Area Gas Heater

ALDI’s Special Buys are famous for their bargains, but you must act now if you picked up a Coolabah Area Gas Heater between 7 and 9 May 2025.

The heater (model SKYFSD-DSS6NW) has been recalled due to a risk of excess gas igniting, which could cause serious injury or even death.

The issue is a lack of separation between the gas cylinder compartment and the flame source, which could lead to a fire.

Stop using the heater immediately and return it to any ALDI store for a full refund. Safety first, especially as we head into the cooler months.

3. Lekker Biltong Slices

Snack lovers, note that Protea Foods has recalled Lekker Biltong Slices Traditional (100g) and Peri-Peri Chilli (40g) due to mould contamination from a packaging fault.

The affected batches are 08 0804 and 08 0904, expiring 11/01/2026. These products have been sold at Coles in New South Wales, independent retailers in Victoria and Western Australia (WA), and online in WA.

Don’t eat these products. Return them to the store for a full refund. Consuming mouldy food can cause illness, especially for those with allergies or compromised immune systems.

4. Santa Cruz Heckler 9 E-Bike

For the active and adventurous, the Santa Cruz Heckler 9 e-bike with a 720W lithium-ion battery has been recalled due to a risk of short-circuiting and fire.

While no injuries have been reported, four fires have caused some property damage. The bikes are easily identified by the ‘SANTA CRUZ’ logo on the downtube and ‘Heckler’ on the top tube and inside the left chainstay.

Stop using the e-bike and disconnect the battery. Check if your battery is affected and register for a replacement, available from mid-July 2025. For help, contact Santa Cruz Bicycles or your local dealer.

5. a2 Light Milk 2L

Milk is a staple in most Australian households, but if you recently picked up a 2L bottle of a2 Light Milk in WA, it’s time to check your fridge.

This product, sold at Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, and IGA, has been recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria can cause severe illness, especially in older adults, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. The affected bottles are marked with a use-by date of 06/06 and product number #41.

Stop using the milk immediately and return it to the store for a full refund. If you’ve already consumed it and feel unwell, especially with flu-like symptoms, seek medical advice immediately.

Have you ever had to return a recalled product? Did you find the process straightforward, or was it a hassle? We’d love to hear your stories and tips for staying safe and savvy as a shopper. Share your experiences in the comments below.
