Kmart shoppers swear by this $10 find—will it solve your space woes?

Finding practical and affordable ways to organise everyday items is a common challenge for many households.

Recently, one budget-friendly storage solution has been gaining attention among shoppers, particularly those who frequent popular supermarkets like ALDI.

Enter Kmart’s collapsible crate, priced at $10, is praised for its affordability and versatility, and is now being used in a variety of everyday situations.

These collapsible crates are available in three sizes—5L, 15L and 30L. They come in a range of colours including green, red, purple, orange and blue.

The crates are made from plastic, fold flat when not in use and are designed for general-purpose storage.

Shoppers have reported using the crates to simplify supermarket trips, particularly at ALDI where customers are expected to pack their own groceries quickly after checkout.

One customer shared: ‘I’ve got three big ones in my car for my ALDI shopping. Works so good and I usually fit everything in just two.’

Another commented: ‘I use these for my click and collect orders so I don’t have to remember my own bags or buy them. Straight to the kitchen to unstack them and then they fold down and go straight back into the car.’

Users have found a variety of practical uses for the collapsible crates beyond just carrying groceries.

Many have adopted them as an alternative to reusable bags during shopping trips, noting how convenient they are for transporting items from the car directly into the home.

Others use them around the house—for instance, as a temporary laundry basket that can be folded away once the washing is done, or as a tidy solution for storing bottles and cans set aside for recycling.

In homes with young children, Kmart’s collapsible crates have been repurposed as storage for toys or shoes, particularly in bedrooms or entryways where clutter tends to build up.

For those who travel or camp, the crates offer a compact and reliable way to pack clothes, supplies, or equipment, and they’re especially appreciated for their ability to fold flat when not in use.

Some shoppers also use the crates for organising chest freezers, where the ability to lift out a full crate makes it easier to access items buried underneath.

In event settings, they’ve been used to transport decorations and supplies to and from venues. Teachers have also found them useful in classrooms, whether for holding student workbooks or keeping teaching materials in order.

Other applications mentioned include car boot storage, under-sink organisation, pet supplies, gardening, picnics, and as a container for emergency items such as torches and batteries.

Many ALDI customers cite the fast-paced checkout process as a challenge. The collapsible crates offer a structured way to manage items quickly, avoiding the need to purchase additional bags.

“Works so good!!” That’s terrible English.

  2. Why don’t these articles ever state if these items are Australian made or not?

Since, some people are climate change alarmists, they should know if items are being made in third world countries such as China, which use fossil fuels and nuclear energy and aren’t bulldozing their power plants like us.
