Winter in Australia is a time for rugging up, sipping hot drinks and, let’s be honest, desperately searching for ways to stay warm without looking like the Michelin Man.
While Australia is famous for a love of thongs and slides, the chilly months force even the most die-hard sandal fans to reconsider their footwear choices.
Enter the humble clog—a style that has been making waves for its comfort, versatility and, in the case of the iconic Birkenstock Boston, its eye-watering price tag.
But what if you could get the look and feel of those $300 clogs for a fraction of the price?
Kmart, the beloved Australian retail giant, has come to the rescue with a $15 dupe that has shoppers buzzing—and for good reason.
The $15 Kmart clog: A winter game-changer
Mum and make-up artist Amelia Webb recently took to social media to share her discovery: Kmart’s $15 clogs, which she describes as ‘super comfortable’ and surprisingly high quality.
‘I could definitely wear them all day, especially with socks,’ Amelia says. ‘The quality is a lot better than I thought it would be. I’m super interested to see how long they will last me.’
For those who have long admired the minimalist chic of Birkenstock’s Boston clogs but balked at the price, this is welcome news.
Amelia points out that the Kmart version nails the look, with a stylish grey/bone colour and a design that is ‘almost the same’ as the original.
‘Some dupes I have seen are a weird shape or colour, whereas these are a really nice grey/bone colour, and although they aren’t real suede, they look the same.’
How do they stack up?
Of course, the real test of any dupe is how it holds up in everyday use.
Amelia, who shared her find on social media, fielded questions from curious followers about everything from comfort to grip.
‘How do you find the grip on them?’ one person asked. ‘I was thinking about getting them but I’m so unco and don’t want to slip over lol.’
Amelia’s verdict? ‘I find them fine. They are a little more slippery with the socks on.’
The response from fellow shoppers has been overwhelmingly positive.
Comments like ‘Running to Kmart!’, ‘Love these,’ and ‘So cute’ flooded in, with many echoing Amelia’s enthusiasm for a stylish, affordable alternative to the big-name brands.
More than just a bargain
Kmart’s winter range does not stop at the classic clog.
For those who want to up the cosy factor, there is a faux boucle fabric option and a version with a fur-lined footbed—perfect for those frosty mornings when you just can’t face cold tiles.
And it is not just social media users singing their praises; the retailer’s website is full of glowing reviews.
‘Love these shoes! They have a nice thick sole so won’t fall apart as fast as some other cheap dupes,’ one customer wrote.
Another added, ‘Love these clogs, look great and comfortable, good quality for the price too.’
Why are clogs so popular?
It is not just about the price. Clogs have become a winter staple for their blend of comfort, support and style.
The slip-on design makes them perfect for everything from quick trips to the letterbox to a casual coffee run.
With the rise of ‘athleisure’ and relaxed homewear, they fit right in with the way we live now—especially for those who value practicality as much as aesthetics.
Birkenstock’s Boston clogs have long been the gold standard, beloved for their ergonomic footbed and timeless look.
But with prices starting at $260 and climbing to $300 or more, they are out of reach for many. Kmart’s $15 version offers a way to get the look without the guilt—or the dent in your wallet.
