Let’s be honest—laundry is one of those never-ending chores that most of us would rather avoid.
Whether you’re wrangling grandkids’ muddy footy kits or simply trying to keep up with your own ever-growing pile of laundry, finding a practical solution that makes the task easier is always a welcome relief.
Kmart’s latest budget-friendly offering has garnered attention for its practicality and affordability, making it a standout choice for shoppers seeking functional laundry essentials.
The $35 Anko Dual Section Laundry Hamper is flying off shelves, with fans calling it a ‘game changer’ for sorting and storing dirty clothes.
Kmart shoppers are a savvy bunch, always on the lookout for clever ways to make life easier without breaking the bank. The new dual-section hamper has been making waves on social media, with one social media user gushing: ‘Absolutely love them. These are called the Anko Dual Section Laundry Hamper.’
At just $35, it’s a fraction of the price of similar products from high-end brands like Joseph Joseph, whose version retails for around $150!
For many, the appeal is simple: two compartments mean you can easily separate your lights and darks (or towels and delicates, or however you like to organise your washing). No more sorting through a mountain of mixed laundry on wash day—just grab a section and go!
One happy customer even said, ‘I bought two so I can divide my laundry into four sections.’ Now that’s organisation!
While the Kmart hamper is winning hearts (and wallets), laundry expert Nicole Gibson from Söka Australia points out a few differences between the budget buy and its pricier counterparts.
The Joseph Joseph hamper, for example, is made from bamboo with cotton tote bag inserts, giving it a more premium look and feel. The Kmart version, on the other hand, is made from polyester and is a bit flimsier in comparison.
Nicole says, ‘You pay for what you get, and I think when you’re paying $150 for a Joseph Joseph one, you do get that quality. It’s aesthetically pleasing where the Kmart one isn’t really on point, but if that’s your budget, then it would certainly do the job.’
So, if you’re after something that looks a bit more stylish and will last for years, you might want to splurge. But if you just need something practical and affordable, Kmart’s hamper could be the perfect fit.
Before you rush out to buy one (or two!), it’s worth considering a few important tips from the experts. Nicole warns that no matter which hamper you choose, you should never put damp, sweaty, or wet clothes straight into it. ‘It will cause bacteria and mould to spread across the other clothing items that may be dry,’ she explains.
This is especially true for fabric hampers, which can trap moisture and become a breeding ground for nasties. To avoid this, always make sure your clothes are dry before tossing them in, and keep your hamper in a well-ventilated area.
Interestingly, Nicole’s personal favourite isn’t the dual-section hamper at all—it’s a slimline plastic basket from Kmart (around $19) with plenty of air holes. ‘It’s easy to wipe out, you can hose it out, put it in the shower, but it’s got a lot of air vents. Air in your clothes is really important, the airflow is really important,’ she says.
Plastic hampers are often easier to clean and less likely to harbour mould, making them a great choice for busy households or anyone concerned about hygiene.
