Popular children’s toy recalled over serious risk—could it be in your home?

If you’re a grandparent, parent, or carer of little ones, you know how important it is to keep your home safe and child-friendly.

That’s why it’s always concerning when a trusted brand issues a product recall, especially when it involves a toy designed for babies and toddlers.

Fisher-Price has announced a recall of its 3-in-1 SnugaPuppy Activity Centre, citing a serious risk of injury or even death.

The recall centres on the detachable tissue box toy included with the SnugaPuppy Activity Centre.

According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the tissue box can come apart, exposing small support brackets. These small parts pose a significant choking hazard if a child puts them in their mouth.

While there have been two reports worldwide of the tissue box coming apart, thankfully, no incidents or injuries have been reported in Australia to date.

The Fisher-Price 3-in-1 SnugaPuppy Activity Centre was available in Australia from December 2022 to September 2023. It was sold at major retailers including Catch, Kmart, and Target.

If you’re a grandparent who has purchased or been gifted this toy for your grandchildren, it’s vital to check whether you have the affected item in your home.

If you have this activity centre, the advice is clear: immediately remove the tissue box toy from the activity centre and keep it well out of reach of children. Do not allow your child to play with the tissue box, even under supervision.

Fisher-Price, which is owned by Mattel, is offering a free replacement toy for affected customers. To arrange a return and replacement, contact Mattel Customer Relations on 1300 135 312. They will guide you through the process and ensure you receive a safe alternative.

Product recalls are a vital part of consumer safety, especially when it comes to products for children. Babies and toddlers are naturally curious and love to explore the world with their mouths, making them particularly vulnerable to choking hazards.

Even the most reputable brands can sometimes have products that slip through the cracks, so it’s essential to stay informed and act quickly when recalls are announced.

The SnugaPuppy Activity Centre is marketed as a versatile play station for babies and toddlers, featuring nine removable toys designed to encourage sensory exploration, gross and fine motor skills, and imaginative play.

The product is intended to grow with your child or grandchild, from tummy time to sitting, spinning, standing, and cruising. It even includes a light-up xylophone with up to 18 minutes of music.

We know that many of our readers are parents and grandparents who want the very best for their families. As this recall serves as an important reminder of the need for ongoing product safety and awareness, it may prompt some families to review toys currently in use at home for their children or grandchildren.
