Australians continue to feel the pinch as inflation and rising living costs pressure household budgets.
Many families struggle to keep up with higher grocery bills, energy costs, and everyday expenses, making it harder to stretch their income and maintain their quality of life.
Woolworths announced a sweeping price drop on hundreds of everyday products, which aims to relieve many Australian households.

Woolworths has revealed a significant price reduction for almost 400 everyday items, vowing to ease the financial burden of your weekly grocery shopping.
The supermarket giant’s new initiative, which kicks off this Wednesday, 14 May, is set to deliver an average price reduction of 10 per cent across a wide range of essentials and family favourites.
Woolworths Chief Executive Officer Amanda Bardwell has taken the unusual step of writing directly to shoppers.
‘This isn’t just a short-term promotion; it’s about lower shelf prices on the products we know customers regularly shop for, and providing genuine, lasting and dependable value they can count on,’ Bardwell said in her message.
So, what can you expect to see for less on your next shop? The list is a mix of Woolworths-branded and popular name-brand products, including:
- Fresh bread
- Chicken schnitzels
- Dishwasher pods
- Greek yoghurt
- Frozen berries
- Flour, rice and other pantry staples
- Nappies and other household essentials
The focus is on items regularly filling the average Australian trolley, to help families and pensioners stretch their budgets further.
While a 10 per cent drop on a single item might not seem like much, the savings can add up quickly.
According to Woolworths, a family spending $150 weekly on groceries could save around $15 by choosing these lower-shelf-priced products.
Over a year, that’s a potential saving of nearly $800, not to be sneezed at, especially with the cost of living continuing to bite.
Perhaps the most significant part of this announcement is the supermarket’s commitment to maintaining these lower prices until ‘at least 2026’.
That’s a bold promise in a retail landscape where specials often come and go in the blink of an eye. Woolworths has also flagged that the list of discounted items will be ‘expanded’ in the coming weeks and months, so that shoppers can expect even more savings.
