If you’ve ever opened your kitchen cupboards only to be greeted by a chaotic avalanche of Tupperware lids, lunchboxes, and mystery containers, you’re not alone.
For many of us, keeping the kitchen tidy feels like a never-ending battle, especially when storage space is at a premium and every shelf seems to have a mind of its own.
But what if we told you there’s a simple, affordable solution that professional organisers are raving about, and it’s hiding in plain sight at your local Kmart?
Enter the humble Kmart roller storage bin—a game-changer for cluttered cupboards, and it’ll only set you back between $9 and $15, depending on the size you choose.
These nifty bins come in four different sizes, making them perfect for everything from Tupperware to lunchboxes, baking supplies, and even those pesky kids’ snacks that always seem to disappear to the back of the pantry.
Professional organiser and Melbourne mum, Anita Harte, swears by these rollers for transforming even the messiest of kitchen spaces.
‘I use them a lot for Tupperware, so you can use them by dividing up the lids, and then stacking all of your Tupperware and just keeping it really nice and organised,’ she explains.
‘I actually also use them for my kids’ lunch boxes and lunch bags and all the little containers.’
But the magic doesn’t stop there. If you’ve got a deep pantry or high cupboards that are hard to reach (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), these roller bins are a lifesaver.
Thanks to their built-in wheels and handles, you can easily pull them out and bring them down, making use of every inch of space—even those awkward, hard-to-reach spots that usually go to waste. Just remember, Anita cautions, to stick to lighter items if you’re storing them up high.
‘You wouldn’t want to be putting heavy pots and pans in it because obviously you’re pulling it down from above, but I use them a lot in high cupboards as well because they utilise all that wasted space up the back.’
She suggests birthday party supplies, candles, or spare baking gear as perfect candidates for these bins.
And don’t think you’re limited to the kitchen! Anita is quick to point out that ‘there’s nothing that a roller can’t do.’
Whether it’s craft supplies, bathroom toiletries, or even cleaning products, these bins are only limited by your imagination.
If you’re looking for more clever storage hacks, Anita has a few more Kmart favourites up her sleeve. The $8 file rack, usually found in the office section, is a surprise hero for storing platters and oven trays vertically.
‘You can use them basically anywhere in a cupboard where you can keep something vertical,’ she says. ‘It’s going to be better so that you can access it without having to lift up a tray to access another tray.’ No more wrestling with a stack of heavy trays just to get to the one you need!
Another must-have is the narrow fridge organiser. While it’s designed for the fridge, Anita admits she’s never actually used it there.
Instead, she finds it brilliant for storing kids’ books, Tupperware, and especially for under-sink storage where you have to navigate around pipes.
Unfortunately, these organisers are currently out of stock at Kmart, but Anita has found a great alternative at Big W—the Brilliant Basics narrow fridge organiser for just $5. The only real difference? It’s white instead of clear.
It’s clear that with a little creativity (and a few affordable Kmart finds), you can reclaim your kitchen from the clutches of clutter. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good storage hack that doesn’t break the bank?
