FREE Platinum Travel Insurance a much better deal. We have never claimed on this but the pdf is identical in almost every detail to the (expensive) stand alone insurance.
Unless travellers have special needs you'd be nuts to buy anything else.

You're 100% right Mick. I've used CBA Platinum Travel Insurance for the past few years. I've never claimed either, but it's very reassuring to have it. It's also underwritten by Alliance.

But just make sure that any activity you want to do is actually covered.

I had to go through several different insurance PDSs and make telephone calls to find one that covers a cycle tour - as opposed to competitive racing. You can't assume you are covered. Check whether that glass of wine you want with dinner doesn't invalidate a claim if you get knocked down crossing the road afterwards - remember the case of the Australian girl in America whose insurance was invalidated when she was knocked down on a pedestrian crossing because she had been drinking. And in these potentially dangerous times, you really need to ask questions about acts of terrorism (of course not in places like Iraq or Syria). I discovered that some insurances will not cover you if you are injured or the level of coverage is reduced compared to say an accident.
