International visitors slugged

As announced in the federal budget on Tuesday, funding for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service is being cut by $6 million over the next two years. This cut will result in fewer frontline border staff and longer queues for international visitors to Australia. The cuts are being implemented despite projections of soaring inbound passenger numbers.

First impressions count

According to Tourism Australia, international visitor numbers have been positive in 2012 with a three months to March visitor increase of 4.1 per cent on the same period the previous year.
