How to bookmark websites

Did you know you can bookmark your favourite websites, making it quicker and easier to access them?

A bookmark saves the location of a website to your browser and provides you with a shortcut to it. For example, you could set a bookmark rather than using Google search or a link from our daily enews to access YourLifeChoices. This way you can get straight to our website, or a particular page, such as travel or the Meeting Place, without any hassle.

Mac and PC

Google Chrome

First, open the website you want to bookmark, then click the star icon located to the right of the website address, as shown in the picture above. You can now change the name of your bookmark, but try to keep it short so you can fit plenty of bookmarks on your toolbar. Once you’re finished, click ‘Done’.

Your bookmarks can be accessed by clicking the icon with three horizontal lines to the right of the star icon, then moving your cursor to ‘Bookmarks’. I recommend using the bookmarks bar, which places your bookmarks in a small area under the address bar in your browser. If your bookmarks toolbar isn’t already turned on, you can activate it by pressing Ctrl+Shift+B, or for Mac users, Command+Shift+B.

Bookmarks can be deleted by right-clicking the shortcut on the bookmarks bar and clicking ‘Delete’.

Mozilla Firefox

To begin, open the website you want to bookmark, then click the star icon located to the right of the website address, as shown in the picture above. Click the icon again to change the name of your bookmark, but try to keep the name short so that you can fit plenty of bookmarks on your toolbar. Once you’re finished, click ‘Done’.

You can now access your bookmarks by clicking the clipboard icon next to the star icon. You can also use the bookmarks toolbar, which is located beneath the address bar in Mozilla. If your bookmarks toolbar isn’t already turned on, you can activate it by clicking the clipboard icon then ‘Bookmarks Toolbar’ > ‘View Bookmarks Toolbar’.

Bookmarks can be deleted by right-clicking the shortcut on the bookmarks toolbar and clicking ‘Delete’.

Safari

To begin, open the website you want to bookmark and click ‘Bookmarks’ > ‘Add Bookmark’ as shown in the image above. Now enter a name for your bookmark and click ‘Add’ to save it.

You can access your bookmarks by clicking ‘Bookmarks’ on the menu bar, or you can activate the Favourites Bar by pressing ‘Command+Shift+B’. The Favourites Bar will place all of your bookmarks on a toolbar, which is located underneath the address bar.

To delete a bookmark, right-click it, then click ‘Delete’.

Internet Explorer

To begin, open the website you want to bookmark, then click the star icon located to the right of the website address, as shown in the picture above. If you can’t see the star icon, click ‘Favourites’ > ‘Add to favourites’. You can now change the name of the bookmark and choose a folder in which to save it. Click ‘Add’ when you are finished.

To access your Favourites click the Favourites button on the menu bar (if you can’t see this try pressing the Alt key on your keyboard).

If you want quicker access to your bookmarks, you can use the Favourites bar located underneath your address bar. If it’s not already turned on, click the ‘View’ button on the menu bar (if you can’t see this try pressing the Alt key on your keyboard), then click ‘Toolbars’ and then click ‘Favourites bar’.

Smartphone and tablet

Safari

Open Safari and navigate to the page you want to bookmark. Now tap the ‘Share’ icon at the bottom of the screen, as shown in the picture above. From the following menu tap where it says ‘Add Bookmark’ or simply ‘Bookmark’.

You can now choose the name for your bookmark and, if you wish, sort them into folders. Once you have finished, tap ‘Save’ at the top right of your screen.

Bookmarks can be accessed by tapping the book shaped icon located to the right of the share icon in Safari.

Bookmarks can also be made and placed directly on your iPhone or iPad’s home screen, just as an app is displayed. To do this, open up Safari and navigate to a page then tap the ‘Share’ icon, then tap ‘Add to Home Screen’, then tap ‘Add’. You will now have a shortcut directly to a website right on your device’s homepage.

Google Chrome

Tap the ellipsis icon at the top right (circled in the picture above), then tap the star icon at the top. Whenever you open a new tab in Google Chrome you can tap the ‘Bookmarks’ button at the bottom left to access your bookmarks. If you are browsing the internet, you can access your bookmarks by tapping the ellipsis icon, then tapping ‘Bookmarks’.
