Small business, local government and senior Australians will benefit from further funding to showcase the possibilities of the NBN.
As the NBN rollout continues, a further $7.2 million of investment will be provided to assist small business to engage in the digital economy. Local government will benefit from an injection of $5.7 million over two years to improve online service delivery. And finally, the Broadband for Seniors program will receive further funding of $9.9 million over four years.
Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme
With many Australians living and working in remote and regional areas, the scheme has been extended until 30 June 2014. The scheme assist with the cost of purchasing a satellite handset and has so far provided 24,000 subsidies.
As the NBN Co’s fixed wireless network rolls out, mobile carriers will be able to improve their coverage and as such, the scheme will be reviewed at the end of 2013.
