Apple announces new iPads

In what feels like the most low-key product launch in several years, Apple has this week quietly released its new iPad Air and iPad Mini into the market. The no ‘hoo-ha’ launch may be due to competitors Huawei and Samsung both announcing smartphones that can fold out to the size of a tablet to be released this year.

So let’s get into the details of the updates to the iPad Air and iPad Mini.

iPad Air
Retailing for $779 in the 64GB wifi option, the new iPad Air will feature a screen measuring 10.5 inches diagonally, slightly smaller than the 9.7-inch screen installed in the standard iPad.

Thinner and lighter than ever before, this new iPad Air now packs several of the key features found in the bulkier iPad Pro that couldn’t be included in previous versions.

While it’s certainly an update, some older features remain, including the home button with a fingerprint sensor, which has been done away with in iPad Pro versions for retina password sensors.

iPad Mini
Retailing for $599 in the 64GB wifi option, Apple has refreshed this device for the first time in well over three years, and fans won’t be disappointed.

Apple suggests that this new version of the iPad Mini is up to three times faster than the iPad Mini 4. It features a 7.9-inch Retina display with True Tone, which dynamically adjusts white balance to allow images to look natural in any light.

All of these iPad brand models are extremely good value for money as alternatives to laptop computers. The latest versions look to improve on what is already a good product.

What do you think? Do you have an iPad? Would you recommend one to someone shopping for a low-price computer?
