App of the month March

Translate text by just taking a photo and check your emails on the go with the new Outlook app. Get the most out of your device with the app of the month.

Google Translate
This app, which recently received a massive update, will give you easy access to all the features of Google’s Translate website plus some new ones. The highlight of the recent update is its ability to translate text to English by simply taking a photo of the text. It’s perfect for translating road signs, billboards, menus or pretty much anything of which you can take a photo, as long as it’s well lit and written in non-stylised text. The list of languages this feature supports is quite extensive, and you can download language packs ahead of time that allow you to translate text overseas without using any internet data.

Google Translate is available for free on iPhone, iPad and Android

Last year, Microsoft purchased the popular email app Acompli and its development team for $200 million USD, and together they have just launched the new Outlook app. The app will replace Microsoft’s previous email apps and will allow you to collect your mail easily from almost any email provider.

Features include:

  • synergy with your calendar app
  • a triage filter that organises your emails by importance
  • customisable swipe gestures
  • a simple and intuitive interface.

The app is available for free on iPhone, iPad and Android.

Please note that the Android version is still bug-testing, so you may experience some minor glitches.
