The pros and cons of iOS7

Not sure whether to upgrade your iPhone to the new Apple operating system, iOS7? Read on to discover who should upgrade, how to upgrade and the pros and cons.

Who should consider upgrading to iOS7
People using the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 4. Those with the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S should remember that these phones will run more slowly on the new operating system. If you are using an iPhone 4 or 4S and are experiencing lag with iOS7, try disabling ‘documents and data’ in the iCloud settings – apparently it fixes the slow keyboard problem.

Who should not consider upgrading to iOS7
Anyone using an iPhone 3 or 3GS. Your phone will end up running so slowly that it won’t be worth the thrill of using new software.

How to download iOS7
First, update iTunes on your computer. Next is the most important step: back up your iPhone. Once you have backed up, you can download the new operating system. To do so wirelessly, on your device go to ‘Settings’, ‘General’, ‘Software Update’, where you will see instructions to download and install the update. To download it via iTunes, plug your phone into your computer, open iTunes and click on your device (e.g. ‘Rachel’s iPhone’) in the left-hand side menu. In the middle of the screen you will see a ‘Check for Update’ button – click it. Next, select ‘Download and Update’ and settle in for a bit of a wait.

I have a 4S; I read about the new OS and checked with Apple forums. A few said they had problems but mostly OK. I downloaded it to my 4S and iPad; works fine. I like the new look - clean and fresh!

I love it on my ipad2. Find it much easier to use and read, and type emails.
