What is Google Now?

A predictive information tool to make your life easier.

What is Google Now?

The latest update of Google Search for iPhone has seen the inclusion of Google’s new predictive information tool, Google Now. Already available as an app for Android devices, Google Now had to be included as an add-on to the Google Search app on iPhone due to differing software requirements.

Google Now has been built as a predictive information service for your daily life. Providing you with live updates on the weather, reminders for meetings, traffic conditions to/from work, sports scores, current stock prices and many more categories, Google Now uses your location, information you provided on setup and your Google account to alert you to items of interest.

How to get started with Google Now for iPhone
From your iPhone home screen, click on ‘App Store’.
At the bottom of your screen will be five tabs, press the fourth tab across named ‘Search’.  In the search bar at the top, type in ‘google search’. The first result you will will receive is the ‘Google Search’ app. Install the app and, when installation is completed, open it.

You will now be walked through the fun features of Google Search and the addition of Google Now. Keep pressing the button in the bottom right of the screen until you find yourself at the screen containing the Google search bar.

Now click on the ‘Sign in’ button in the top left-hand corner of the screen and either create a Google account if you don’t already have one, or log in to your current account.

Now that you are logged in, you will receive card prompts at the bottom of the window. Hold a finger over the ‘Cards appear here when you need them’ text and pull it upwards. You will see that a customised weather forecast has already been selected for your card area. You can remove a card at any time by simply holding your finger on the card and swiping to the left or right. You can update your cards by clicking the refresh button at the bottom left and customising what is shown by clicking the cog in the bottom right.
