Free Anti-Virus and Adware removal

Font Size:

The first thing that a technician will do when selling you a computer is recommend that you buy the top of the line anti-virus software, saying ‘it will save you more in the long run’. However, in all likelihood, if you are vigilant and follow strict processes, as well as employ the help of a free virus scanner, the likelihood of getting a virus which obliterates your computers hard drive is miniscule. All of the following programs are free. To ensure the best performance from your computer, it is recommend you only ever have one Anti-Virus program installed and active at a time, backed up with an Adware removal program which is “passive”.

Free Anti-Virus Software

AVG Anti-Virus (PC)
AVG Anti-Virus is a trusted free anti-virus scanner. It offers all the bare-necessities when it comes to computer security, and should be enough protection for people who know enough about basic computer safety (i.e. staying away from .biz sites, not opening emails which are suspect or simple titles such as “hello” from people you do not recognise as a contact). This virus scanner is only available for Windows users.

CNET Downloads is THE site to get as much free software as you can handle. All software gets a comprehensive editor’s review, but don’t forget to then scroll down and read all the users’ reviews. CNET guarantees all software you download from their site is virus free.

I run AVG Free 2012 and also Malwarebytes ( both rated #1 in their area by CNET).
Don’t touch Spybot with a 40ft. pole (read editor’s review).

What is your reason for not using Spybot Search and Destroy. It is very well respected on all the forums I volunteer on. Give us the link to read the review please.

    kind regards,
