Tax for Macs

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has spent $5.2 million to enable Mac users to access the e-tax software. As of 1 July 2013, the e-tax will be available on any PC or Mac, as long as it is connected to the internet.

It was revealed in July 2012 that e-tax for Mac had been developed in 2011, but there were so many bugs the release had to be postponed to 2013. Although the software is not yet available, the ATO is promising a 1 July release.

If you wish to complete your tax return before 1 July 2013, you will need to complete a paper form – this goes for both Macs and PCs, as e-tax 2012 is now closed. Read these step-by-step instructions to find out how to use e-tax 2012 to complete a paper tax return.

If, however, you wish to use the e-tax software, simply visit on or after 1 July 2013 and follow the instructions to download the software and fill in your tax return.
