YOURLifeChoices Publisher, Kaye, was the biggest sceptic when asked to move from a traditional diary to an online Google Calendar but has found the transition life changing in a good way.
What is Google Calendar?
Google Calendar is an online calendar system which lets you schedule your day-to-day events and life. You can let your family and friends see your calendar, and view schedules which others have shared with you.
If you are the forgetful type, you can get event reminders via email or have text messages sent right to your mobile phone at a set time. If you have a mobile phone with internet capabilities, you can access your calendar from your phone using its built-in calendar or mobile browser.
Using Google Calendar
To start with Google Calendar visit www.google.com/calendar and log into your account or create a new account and then log in. You will now be presented with a clear calendar screen ready to have information input. We are now ready to start creating events.
How to create an event
To create a new event on the calendar, click the “Create Event” button, (located top left hand side of the internet browser window). Enter a title, start date and time and an end date and time. If you want this even to repeat each year, for example a birthday, then click the repeat button on the right hand side and select “Yearly” from the drop down box which will appear. Now scroll down again and enter where the event is and the description. Under Reminders, click “Add a reminder”. You can now select from Email or SMS and how long before the event you want this to happen. If you want an SMS reminder, you will need to add your phone number in Settings at the top right hand side of the screen, under the Calendar Settings tab of “Mobile Setup”, when you are finished with this process. Finally on the right hand side of the screen, you can “Invite” guests to the event by adding their email addresses. Once you are done, scroll to the bottom and click “Save”.
How to edit a calendar event
To edit a calendar event, find the event in question and then double left click on the item, or left click once and click the “edit event details” button.
You now know the basics and are ready to start organising your life online.
