The Glad Wrap cutter bar debacle

In a poignant demonstration of people-power, thousands of Australians have joined forces to demand that Glad Australia return the Glad Wrap box to its original design, after a furore over the cutting blade being relocated from the base of the box to inside the lid.

The new design fuelled anger in customers, who were frustrated by the amount of plastic wrap being wasted as they wrestled with the pack. Some customers even threatened to boycott the brand.

Glad Australia marketing director Phil James said, “The explosion of conversation about the new cutter bar has been unprecedented. We simply could not ignore the magnitude of complaints.”

James said the company was working quickly to reverse the change, but it will be several months before the original design is returned to supermarket shelves.

Glad Australia introduced the new cutter design late last year, after extensive in-home research and feedback from customers expressing concern about the injury risks from the original design’s exposed blade. The change is set to cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Did you experience frustration with the new Glad Wrap design? Do you think the relocation of the cutter bar is worth the hundreds of thousands of dollars it will cost?

There has always been a hazard with the cutter on Glad Wrap but the one in the lid is particularly bad. I purchased a 100 meter roll as it was on special this week and regret having done so. Unfortunately the roll will not fit in the old pack.

I will buying other brands in the future and increase our supply of Band-Aids to repair gashes from the cutter.

Isn't it fun when it tears and winds up all around the roll ? And renders it USELESS ??

Glad wrap 100M is good buying and gives a better cling than Coles brand.

I have bought it recently and have mastered the new cutter bar quite easily so cant see what is all the fuss about.

Unfortunately we are a nation of whingers.

This really is a first world problem. So much high blood pressure over a not very important issue.
Like all products, if it does not meet your needs, go elsewhere.

We use the Toilet Paper that Loves Your Bum, 4 Ply is best for a generous wipe, much better than Newspaper or a Telephone Book as in the old days.

Thank goodness consumers have won with this blasted cutter on Glad Wrap. Sick of scratches and cuts. What a disgusting design. Think I will try Aldi's brand.

I changed to using Gladwrap in the EasyCut Dispenser when it first came out. It's foolproof. No waste, no wrinkling into a mess, no sharp cutting blade exposed. Safe for children to use, too. And - no frustration!

Unfortunately the cheaper brands don't work as well, they get tangled and don't stick as well. Glad is the better option but big mistake to change the cutter. If people are stupid enough to not see where the cutter is and injure themselves then they deserve it. Been using glad all my life and not cut myself once. Common Sense everyone. Fortunately by the time I have finished this new pack the old way will be back in supermarkets. Don't change things that work.....,

I am going to check if I still have the docket for what I bought last week then check the new roll I bought this week. I may be returning it. I will be glad when we get more Aldis in SA.
We only have one at the moment and it is in the far southern suburbs and I live in the northern suburbs. Not practical on public transport.

What amazes me is that only one or two others have made a positive comment about the easy to use EasyCut dispenser that Gladwrap put out a couple of years ago. It is so easy to use, always delivers a clean straight across cut, so no frustration.
