The most boring city in the world

Which city do you think is the least exciting?

The most boring city in the world

Time Out has just released their annual City Life Index. Quizzing 15,000 people worldwide, the index ranks the world’s cities by how ‘exciting’ they are. Here’s the top 5.

  1. Chicago, US
  2. Porto, Portugal
  3. New York, US
  4. Melbourne, Australia
  5. London, UK

Australia was well represented with Sydney also making an appearance at number 28.

At the other end of the list, coming in at second to last (the least exciting city went to Istanbul) was Singapore.

The local culture (or perhaps lack of?) was quoted by Time Out as being a large factor in the city’s low ranking.

Not everyone agreed with the decision, Singapore, naturally, was quite offended, hitting back with a post on their Facebook page and a video that says otherwise.

VisitSingapore’s post reads: “Yeah, Time Out London, we’re pretty “unexciting”.”

And here is the accompanying video.

What do you think? Was Singapore undeservedly placed so low?

You can see the full list at Time Out.

We love Singapore - and it is even better now with Sentosa being
developed and is family oriented. A variety of areas to suit every taste
in shopping, plenty to choose for eateries, enjoy a pleasant boat trip
from Clarke Quay - and the people have always been polite and friendly, lots of great Hotels. What more do you want?

I lived in Singapore for 5 years more than 20 years ago. It definitely wasn't boring then even though it was deemed 'clean, green and sterile' way back then. Sentosa was in its infancy and termed 'So Expensive Nothing TO See Anywhere'! I guess that bit has changed!
Clarke Quay didn't exist - at least there was just a single half built venue when I left. But is had its exciting and ethnic quarters that were a joy to visit, Little India, China Town, places still with the old time Singapore before the gentrification of the shop houses and demolition of others for the rise of the glass and chrome edifices they have now. Ah, well, that's progress.

Stopped over in Singapore a few times. By no means boring. Tourist oriented, clean, lots of culture, many English speakers, readable street signs. Good shopping, lots of good eateries of all kinds. I don't know who did the survey but I think they got their numbers reversed. There is no way I would class Chicago as exciting unless you class dodging bullets as such.

Starting off with Singapore Airlines on an A380 which had really filthy toilets & food that had been microwaved into a sickening over cooked pulp which smelled horrible.
Then Changi airport with outrageous prices for unclean dirty cups & spoons, undrinkable hot chocolate, tea & a stale cake at $23.00 Australian. No refund, no complaints accepted.
Could not wait to leave & ventured no further. Dubai a fantastic airport & place to visit.
