Man builds replica of Noah’s Ark

replica of noah ark moored in south amsterdam

A Dutch carpenter, in 1992, had a dream that the Netherlands would one day be flooded so, 13 years later, he built a replica of Noah’s Ark and hopes to be able to sail it to Brazil in time for the Olympic Games.

The carpenter, Johan Huibers, built the impressive 125m long, 29m wide and 23m high vessel, exactly half the scale of the specifications mentioned in the bible. A popular tourist attraction, the ark acts as an interactive museum and function centre moored in a port south of Amsterdam. He is hoping to raise almost $2 million to cover the cost of sailing it across the sea to Brazil, to visit every port in South and North America. So far, he has raised just under $3000.

What do you think of this project? Too much time and money? Or an inspiring act of dedication to an ancient myth?

Were ther kanagoos on the ark?

Of course there were, they were the first to hop off.

I guess they had to be. It would have been a long way to Australia.

No, No,I mustn't ...

I am a very polite senior and must practice restraint...

And just like the animals being herded on board , you will all be left in the dark as to what my outrageous comment was going to be...

It would probably have been my last !!!!!!!!

LOLOL

Me laughing to myself.....

"ARK...ARK".....!!! lOL.

Me laffin too!

The Dutch carpenter is a sensible man, remember the story of the little Dutch boy who saved Holland from being flooded? He stuck his finger in the dike and the leak stopped?

I have a bit of a problem with Noah though, did he or did he not take pandas on board, there's no mention.

Anyway, I wish the ark the best of luck on its journey to the Rio Olympics, hope they make it trouble free!

Dont fret O'l son..

Look...

Now the puzzle has been solved and you have been put in the picture...

I knew Noah would never leave such a VIP species behind...LOLOL

Cranky --  You are always to the rescue. You must have a million pictures stored in there. Good luck to you. I would have hated to be the cleaner on board.

Looks like that was Noah himself Hola.....

Plenty of fertiliser, I guess.

Stay on topic Barak - we're talking about arks not fertiliser

Another good reason to keep a diary!

There was no room anyway Ray....LOLOLOL...

I can see Banjo and his wife but where are you pair hiding?...

Cranks, how the devil did that elephant get up there, not Dumbo the flying elephant by any chance???

Where am I? Well all the books told a lie. They said a dove brought back a leaf to herald the end of the flood. WRONG, it was an eagle, Me. Noah kept me under wraps 'cos he had a special PI job for me!

Elephant above???...I have no idea, but this picture could be held up for despute as well.....

There are 4 elephants...??

Hardly fair when your dinosaurs were left behind..

No wonder they became extinct...!

As for you being the chosen one...You made it just in time !...lolol

Good job!

Wouldn't mind seeing a photo of the original, pleeeeeaaase.(lol)

Rubbish

I clicked on the link Sandi and found it interesting;  whether it is the Ark I do not know but am surprised there has not been headlines around the world.. or maybe there are reasons they don't want a lot of publicity;  who knows.

I have an open mind about the whole thing.

Why there haven't been headlines around the world is that it's a load of rubbish.

i didnt see any cats there CRANKY,    must be there somewhere,      PEPE LA PEW,      i remember reading something years ago where they had found the ark,      dont know if its this one ,     i cant remember any pics of it,

I think I would have to have an inspection Cats..my eyes aren't that good so I can't see if any of your species is on board..even with my magnifying glass..I can't hear any cat fights either..

They are probably down below in the scullery sampling the milk that the cows have just provided.. Lol

I was so sad to see that RnR. All that work destroyed in a matter of minutes. I can only hope they have a few volunteers who will help out to put the Ark back to new again. It must be very soul destroying for the builders. I wonder if it was covered by insurance.

Sad?

I laughed.

Barak -  Only a totally uncaring person would laugh. How would you feel if someone backed their car into your house.? What would you think if everyone stood there and laughed? Wouldn't be too impressed, would you? Cold hearted would be the best way to describe you.

Look, building a Noah's ark would have to be one of the most ridiculous, foolhardy things anyone could ever do, motivated purely by nutty, fundamentalist religious belief.

It's clearly not a navigable craft.

Circus clowns do ridiculous, foolhardy things.  They want us to laugh.

I don't think this dill's god is really on his side.

I do feel sorry for the coastguard people.

Leave me out of it Barak..

The same as I would do if you wanted to climb aboard in the next flood..

One is quite enough...lolol

he is a peasant,    the one i heard about,  some years ago,   was discovered in TURKEY,   if memory serves me right,

Is everyone aware that there is "another" Noah's Ark being built by an Australian in Kentucky!

Watched a segment on Sunday night recently.  This one is costing $100 million to build.  It is an amazing structure.

Personally I think the money is being wasted and could be put to better use to help people in need.

Noah's ark is just a pleasant story. Very implausible. This is the real ark:
