Having to go pick up a parcel which "couldn't"  be delivered is bad enough but to pay to pick it up for "storage" is just a cash grab.

Consumers would be charged up to $3 per parcel held for 6 to 10 business days; $6 for 11 to 15 days; and $9 for 16 to 30 days. After 30 days, parcels would be returned to sender.

MyPost members will not be charged for up to 10 days, and charged a discount rate of $3 for up to 15 days and $6 for up to 30 days.

What if you pick up next day ? Have to wait for official confirmation I guess.

Exactly Geomac ... free for first 5 days (10 days free for MyPost as you say. MyPost is free.)

Reiterated details released today. See:

http://auspost.com.au/about-us/changes-to-parcel-holding.html

I like the idea that if I can't get there within 5 days, they'll hold it for a further 3 weeks rather than return to sender after 10 days as before.

Blame TURNBULL.... he decided to give Aust Post (a monopoly), a once heavily controlled industry, the power to raise postage rates ...... carte blanche!

Bravo to the Libs.

PRIVATISATION..... GREAT, AYE!

Kevin Rudd annointed Ahmed Fahour CEO with a $7 billion salary in 2009, who ran our Post Office into the ground He is Australia’s highest-paid public servant. To diminish his tax he donates $2 Million to a Muslim Museum as charity which is run by his family

Yes Libs are at fault for NOT sacking him but by 2013 most of the profitable PO was sold off ... the PO shops were sold to Bob Car's wife. Another corrupt deal from the Labor Party

Abby

So what about this blokes donations!!!!   Abbott and a lot of CHRISTIANS donate MILLIONS to their CHURCHES.... but you have NO PROBLEMS with that! I don't know if you realise this but your statement MAY, just may, be a tad bigoted??

?????ALL post offices are OWNED by PRIVATE ENTERPRISES under the UMBRELLA of Australia Post.... bit like a frachise but with heavy LICENCING requirements - they were corporatised by Bob Hawke.  So why would Bob Carr's wife owning one be a problem?  Just because both of us don't like Bob Carr that much, doesn't mean you can create corruption fantasies to suit your purpose.

My in-laws owned a Post Office... no big deal, just a small business really, unless it is one of the rather big ones, but still no big deal.

Now Re Ahmed Fahour..... appointed in 2010, to look to the future BECAUSE Abby, that is what Labor does.  It was recognised that the post office postal services would decline drastically AND all of the post offices needed to DIGITALISE and get 'E'ready.

This is exactly what happened, the Post Office went from Profits to a 2015 Loss (UNDER LIBERAL), the idiot appointed wasn't FAST enough OR appropriately SUPERVISED by the Liberal govt.

Rather than the Lib Govt being professional and going over the immediate and future requirements of Aust. Post AND what was being done and what was going to be done.... TURNBULL just HANDED ALL POWER OVER TO THIS CEO Ahmed Fahour.

THAT Abby is what the Liberal Party/Govt DO..... nothing!  The very concept of DUE DILIGENCE is quite foreign to these morons.

Why should the taxpayer have to pay $2Million as a bonus for work well done ?? so that Fohour can donate it to Islamic Museum owned by his own brother as tax relieve
Fahour was appointed in 2009
Libs came into power 2013 by which time Fahour sold off different aspects of the PO
"Australia Post" is the trading name, Australian Postal Corporation (formerly the Australian Postal Commission) is the Australian Government-owned entity responsible for the services. The Commonwealth Government of Australia is the sole shareholder.

The splintering of Australia Post began when  Telecommunications was officially separated from postal functions on 1 July 1975 in the Whitlam era.
Yes some of the Post Offices do operate on a franchise lease .... I was refering to Australia Post Shop associated with some Post Offices where you can buy postage stamps, parcel & mail supplies, gifts, collectable coins & more. with Free delivery.... these are operated by government staff.
Increasing postage on letters will only result in less letters being posted
Sack Ahmed Fahour with  his executive army of overpaid mis-managers.... sadly he has a long term Labor contract which would cost zillions to break....
No-one deserves such an obscenely high salary, and especially when he is delivering a financial loss and totally screwing AP with nonsense solutions for the letter aspect of the business.
Fahour sold off most of the parcel services as he did not forsee the parcel post windfall the internet user has provided....yet he continues to give his brother money for the museum as Charity ... Australia Post offers a 3rd world service in a modern world...... offer poor customer service at very high rates.

I have no objection to different cultures having museums, we have Chinese, Italian and Jewish museums in Australia, don't know of any others. These museums were built on donations from members of these communities and finally given funds to continue by the Government. They do not use their museums as a Centrelink office for their relatives.

Let's face it, Australia’s richest postman Fahour was able to reduce his taxable income by donating $2 million straight out of Australia Post’s bank account to his dodgy family Museum, this left him with an $800,000 bonus, to help him celebrate Christmas, which I might add as a Muslim, he doesn't celebrate anyway.

If this isn't a good example of neopotism, what is? The founder and director of the museum is former Macquarie Bank executive Moustafa Fahour - Ahmed Fahour’s brother. Moustafa’s wife, Maysaa, is the chairwoman and director. The Fahours’ sister, MasterChef participant Samira El Khafir, is head chef and manages the cafe on site. A Fahour organisation it would seem.

These are the reasons why Australia Post is going to the dogs. Poor management by Fahour who has too many other things on his mind.

Another thing that occurs to me is, why is  Aboriginal history buried within other museums???? Why isn't money donated to provide a museum solely for Aboriginal history??

Surely the Aboriginal history, an important part of our history deserves as much or even more attention.

Forgot to add - The museum has been granted charity status by the ATO

Undisclosed amounts from tax-free funds have been paid for Islamic “works of art” who decides what is art? Would really like to know how much the tax payer forked out for a portrait of Waleed Ally!!

Mr Fahour's answer to improve delivery services -

Image result for australia post delivering parcel by drone

Posties are complaining about dog attacks, locked gates and some are even terrified of owners' cats scratching them when they try to deliver. Now some whinging posties will find themselves without a job!

CATS?  CATS?  LOL LOL LOL - now that's FUNNY!  ROFL  - you can't be serious???   Hahahahaaaaaaa - sooooooo funny -  Ahhhhhhhh -  best thing I heard in yonks!  LOL

Cats are waiting at the mailbox huh?   Hahahahaaaaaaaaa .........

....... waiting for "cat litter" - OR  - "cat letters"?  LOL LOL LOL

Foxy

There is TRUTH in cat attacks.... I saw a German Shephard have its throat ripped open (didn't kill the dog but came close) by a really big siamese type cat.  I must admit it was bigger than most cats and its teeth were unusually bigger than most.... I was very wary of it myself.

This cat actually patrolled this persons yard.  My beautiful dog followed me in there one day and I was panicked.... but he was lucky, the cat liked him and he was with me, who the cat had become accustomed to.

Banjo

I don't really think that aerial drones will do too much to replace TRUCKS FULL of parcels ...... and...... you should never lose sight of the FACT that people don't go to work to be attacked by dogs OR cats OR get injured in anyway.  You go to work to make a living..... end of story.

Wonder who will be responsible for replacement when all these ferocious animals attack the drones? And who will pay the Vet Bills if the animals are hurt?

Must say my sisters postie In England was petrified of her 2 dogs not of the Labrador but of the teacup Terrier as he was convinced it would go up inside his trouser leg and cause irrepaireble damage!

If you can't make a sensible reply to my posts Mussitate, please refrain from commenting at all.

NO ONE expects trucks of deliveries to be operated by drones. What a silly, childish and unnecessary thing to say. No thought behind that remark.

As for "people don't go to work to be attacked" NO THEY DON'T. However, they should make ALL attempts to do their jobs and if something is hindering them from doing their job, then they must inform the organisation they work for, so that individual cases can be looked at. NOT use it as an excuse to give shoddy service.

I get excellent service, because I do not depend on a postie to deliver my mail, all my stuff is delivered at the post office. However, in spite of that, I get letters each week dropped into my domestic post box because some LAZY postie couldn't be bothered to read the sender's adddress correctly.

Get real Mussitate - I know that cats can attack - lol - but - the postman comes at different times every day ..so how is a cat gonna be there at the mailbox?  One in a million chances would be my guess?  Where I live cats have to be in 24 hours per day - by law - but you do see the odd one about........

BTW - where's ya sense of humour gone?????

Banjo....

You are quite correct when you say some of our posties are lazy and whinge a lot. There have been many reports about this...but at present I can lay my hands on only this article...

"DOZENS of dissatisfied customers have descended on Australia Post’s social media pages with complaints of postmen failing to deliver mail without even trying.

The barrage of complaints came after news.com.au exposed the nationwide issue yesterday publishing CCTV footage showing a Sydney courier approaching an address empty-handed and slipping a “failed to deliver” slip under the door without attempting to get the resident’s attention.

Hundreds have commented on the story sharing similar experiences, and the postal service’s Facebook page has been inundated with details from dissatisfied customers who hadn’t received deliveries.

“Australia Post almost always fail to deliver packages to me. No attempt at delivery, always blame subcontractors, nothing done. Zero care factor,” a Sydney customer wrote this morning.

“Its about time these lazy delivery drivers have been caught out. it's happened to so many of us. How about Aust. Post promising a proper investigation into this and actually doing something about it,” a Brisbane mail recipient wrote.

Yes, of course.... let's taint ALL posties with a few episodes that allow some to jump up and point the finger at ALL posties WHO quite frankly put up with a lot of sh*te from animals and people AND work bloody HARD, as most Australians do.

I would like to point a finger too but I am too polite.

Yes many of us would like to point fingers too, but we are too polite to do so or to even mention that we would like to do so.

However, this does not deter some others.

I have had very little problems with postal deliveries and have had quite a few over the years,eBay. That is not to say I have had no problems but on the whole am satisfied with deliveries sent and accepted by me.

Maybe the postie who delivers mail is an exception but I cannot praise him enough because he has actually knocked on my door with a parcel a bit bulky for the mail box. Maybe its because over the years at two different residences I have got to know him enough to give a wave of acknowledgement and get one back. Maybe its also because he is not a contractor like the parcel delivery van drivers although I have had good relationships with them as well. Maybe just lucky.

Like you Geoff

I have the good fortune of having a nice postman.

I have a magic postie, he sits on his bike and yells for my dog to come to the front fence when I have something a little bigger delivered than normal..and then my dog yells for me ...

If I am not home he will come round the side entrance and put it in my specially made box...

I often give him a few home made cookies for his kids, I am a great believer of kind returns kind..

.

and with the growing population of abusive residents to deliver too , I am not in envy of a posties job at all...

Treat a person as you would expect to be treated and most times you get treated ok. A smile or a wave costs nothing and I find most people are receptive as long as its not intrusive.

Bravo Cranky & geomac

My sentiments as well.

..Posties here on the coast - have a holiday almost every day!  They do NOT deliver on a MONDAY or FRIDAY (for whatever reason??)  You go up to the "Village" shopping centre and there they all are - sitting around tables outside trendy coffee shops -  drinking latte's/chatting/eating donuts -  and then some!!!  Their bikes and over-flowing mail - just sitting there!!!

My "Postie"  gets the "Total Tool of the Year Award!"!!  I have a couple of magazines delivered on a monthly basis - the fool sits on his bike - folds them into 4 - and stuffs them into the main letterbox!!!  I have a special magazine/paper holder on top of my letter-box!  The guy is a bloody MORON!!!  No wonder being a "Postie"  is his main "profession" in life!  No brains!!!!!  Total "dipstick" !!!!

Don't talk to me about POSTIES!  Argggghhhhhhhhh   .........................................

They don't deliver everyday anymore ...... new rules because th Libs gave the overpaid CEO, powers to change postage rates and postal services!!

Fahour was appointed in 2009

Libs came into power 2013, by which time Fahour sold off different aspects of the

PO which were generating money so that the Postal Service was independent of Taxpayer Funds. The CEO has driven the PO into the ground so that he can maintain his exhorbitant salary and his bonuses which he is contracted to.

Ahmed Fhour united business groups, franchisees and unions to bury the hatchet after a new alliance was launched with the specific aim of stopping his proposed changes to the government-owned mail monopoly’s legislated Community Service Obligations (CSO). Hence the mail delivery frequency chopped and a two tier pricing system introduced to replace standard national mail.

Coming close to the end of his contract, Australia Post CEO Ahmed Fahour is now eyeing a role in Medicare. God help us if Labor get in and appoint Fahour to another senior post.

Hmmmmm - thanks for that Mussi - so - do they get  pay-cut for not working the 5 days??  Are they on "Casual" rates do you know?

No Foxy

I listened to Fahour on TV who said that the posties could do chores like take dogs for a walk etc to slow down their mail delivery ... unfortunately Adam, my postie will not have a bar of it .. and Sweeet Thing was so looking forward to it :)

...lol lol - why would anyone trust a stranger with their dog?  Can't even trust Posties to deliver the mail half the time - little own be responsible for someone's pet!   lol   - crazy .......      :-)

Our cat always greets our postman with a smile
