Doctors targeted for being doctors by AFP

Dr Young said the AFP "accessed my metadata, they've called up my colleagues and questioned them about why they are speaking to me", which disproved government claims that secrecy provisions in Australian Border Force laws are not aimed at doctors.

The laws introduced in July last year mean detention centre workers face up to two years in prison for recording or disclosing information obtained from their work.

In a statement in March, Immigration Department chief Michael Pezzullo said the laws "do not prevent, for example, medical professionals from seeking the best clinical outcomes for their patients".

There are laws that encourage/force doctors to report abuse or illegal behoaviour. The govt introduced laws to punish doctors who follow the doctors creed of care for patients. In this case the AFP collected data on a doctor and came up with zero. The doctor made the mistake of voicing his opinion which apparently is suspicious these days. From blue ties to brown shirts seems easy for some.

The Libs don't like most doctors because most doctors are ethical people.

"Doctors are ethical people"  You must be joking!  They are small business owners/operators who are out make a $ at any cost.

Nationalise them

I am closely related to a doctor. You could not be more wrong.

Heard of Médecins Sans Frontières?

Dr Young has a democratic right to air his views. The AFP were barking up the wrong tree or more likely just using harrassment to make an example. So much for the independence of the AFP which was demonstrated as lost after Keelty was made to retract statements by Howard.

The AFP are really looking like a Liberal Party sub-branch these days.

Dr Young commented on the Khazaei case in December and again when Four Corners told the full story in April this year, and his assessment is openly scathing. The reaction was to call in the cops to investigate - not into whether Khazaei's death involved criminal negligence by a Commonwealth officer, but whether Dr Young had leaked the medical records.

The AFP's powers are limited. It can only investigate crimes under Commonwealth laws, and there aren't that many of those. The vast majority of crime is a state law matter. For the NBN and Khazaei investigations, the AFP called upon section 70(1) of the Commonwealth Crimes Act, which has been on the statute books since 1914 and is extraordinarily wide.

Barak, Yes I have but we are talking about Australian doctors.  Internationally there are exceptions to the rule.  I am closely related to a European doctor who totally despises the Australiam Medical Profession because of their attitude that they are the sole determinants of what is the best outcome in regards to health and should be considered as such.  The Australian Medical Profession is composed of smal business owners/operators who are out to make a buck.

I had 10 years of dealing with this self interested group and found that the assertion that as you grow older you lose respect for the Police and Doctors to be true.

You are simply wrong.

Some  Drs. don't  give a  rat's  then  there R  the  rare  gems  the  humanitarians  ,  1 of which  I

have  I  have    followed  2 of his  moves , although  ea 1  further  away  he is  definitely    worth          hanging  on  to .Knows  my  history   is  caring &  very  supportive .

Worth  his weight in  gold to  me , has  helped  me  through  some  very difficult  times

Unfortunately  he  will probably retire  soon.

So  I  can't  allow  they  R  all  tarred  with  the 1 brush but  I agree  some  R   without  feeling .

Yes there are some good Drs like you say Drs without borders etc --BUT there are a lot of useless Drs as well that don't really give a darn about their patients -- I had one till I told him off and sacked him

Good move.

I guess it's the absolute generalisations like Huskie's that annoy me.
