Apology to gay men in Victorian parlaiment
"Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has formally apologised in State Parliament for old laws that treated people as criminals for being gay.
Mr Andrews delivered the apology in Parliament in front of a number of men, some of whom were jailed for being gay.
"It is never too late to put things right," he said.
"It is never too late to say sorry and mean it.
"There was a time in our history when we turned thousands of young men into criminals ... this was profoundly wrong."
The rainbow flag flew over parliament house.
I heard on radio that this was a world first. Don't know if that's true, but it certainly seems a good move.
Yes I saw that news on the 7.30 Report and felt strong emotional response. The road to equality and being treated with decency has been a very long one for homosexuals. Still a little way to go. I have tremendous respect for Daniel Andrews. Wonder if Baird will follow suit?
