What do you remember of parties as a child in 1960's

Curious as contemplating having group of friends and holding a children's party from this era, being disabled, I have to be mindful and was going to ask each person to bring some food and a game.

Ideas?

what did you do?

thanks

ekbg2002 --  I wasn't a child of the 60's but my boys were. We did have a couple of parties for them and their friends, and when I look back now, they were not that grand. We did have the usual party food, party pies and party sausage rolls, soft drinks, chocolate crackles and fairy bread. The games they played was, pass the parcel, with a little gift inside the final parcel, when opened up, a small present inside. Musical chairs and bobbing for apples in a large tub, filled with water., pin-the-tail on the donkey, you can still buy this game in party shops. Sitting on balloons to see who could pop the most. I hope this is not too childish for your party, hope you have a great night.  Cheers. :).

ekbg2002...we've always played charades and still do as adults!

It's a family thing whenever we get together and great fun...

I think it would be fun. Yes charades would be good too. What other adult games that are "easy" do people play I wonder?

I have no memory whatsoever of ever having a party;  sad but true.

Same here Radish.

Awwwwww...you ought to have one now

ekbg2002 -- For the older adult games - line up the people and then blow up a balloon and place it under your chin and then try and pass it on to the next person and try and place it under their chin, it used to bring great laughter because the balloon usually ended up in all different places. I was only a spectator. When we were kids we never had a party. We were lucky to get a present.

I had a party each birthday, but like all Italian parties everyone turned up, all the aunts and uncles, kids etc. so I never felt the party was for me. When our kids came along, we made sure only their friends were invited.

ekbg2002 - here's a good un. Have someone put a few items on a tray, let everyone have a minute or so to check them out and then  have them write the items down from memory.

ekgb2000,

There is a game called "guess the murderer" which is fun. Everyone sits in a circle and closes their eyes while one person who doesn't play walks around the outside and taps one person on the head. That tapped person is the murderer and has to surreptitiously murder the others in the circle one by one by winking at them. They have to try to do this without anyone else (bar the person winked at) seeing. When winked at each person has to pretend they have died. Others can guess who they think the murderer is but are out if they are wrong. The murderer has to try to murder everyone without being found out. When the game finishes they all shut eyes again while the person who was the murderer takes a turn at not playing and walks around the circle to tap a new murderer.

They are great. Thanks everyone

ekbg,

I was not a child in the 60s nor did I have any chidren at that time so I cannot help in that area.

For me I have a few memories of chaotic parties and do recall waking up in some rather unusual places, some times under a strange bed rather than in it.

Best to collect ones gear, ask no questions and leave as quietly as possible.

A bit of sunshine about today, cold though.

Take it easy.

My husband loved to tell this tale. He said he went to a rather wild party in the 60's, got very drunk and when he woke up in the morning there was a really ugly women next to him in the bed, he said "Who the hell are you, and she said I'm the bride, he felt ill and turned over and saw another ugly sheila on the floor, "And I suppose you are"," yes, I am  the bridemaid."

HOLA....I love your stories. You do have a knack for making people laugh!

Thanks Thea. My husband had a great sense of humour as well, no wonder we had such an interesting and happy life together.

Celebrity head is always fun too. Just get them to write down the name of celebrities or famous people and drop them in to a hat (the names, not the people!)

Then they stick a random to their foreheads and by asking yes or no questions of their friends, the have to guess whose name is stuck to their heads. Good for kids, also good fun for adults.

Doesn't have to be only celebrities either, can be anything, the funnier the better.

We played a really good game last NYE with a bunch of friends. Everyone had to write down what they most wished for over the next year, fold up and put in a bowl. Then everyone had to draw one out avoiding their own and act it out in mime while others had to try to guess it.
