Doing it different for decades

I was at the gym yesterday with a friend and my shoelace became un-tied as i dismounted my bike. My friend watched as I did up my shoelace the way I have since I was a little boy. With a confused look on his face, he said "is that really the way you tie your shoelace?"

Not thinking much of it at the time, I looked online later last night to find out I have been tieing my shoelaces in a way that is different to the norm, due to my mum teaching me the 'bunny ears' instead of the 'standard knot'.

How do you tie your shoelaces? Have you ever performed a task or daily routine in a certain way, only to find out you are doing it incorrectly or in a way that isn't the norm?

Drew,

Yeah I tie my shoelaces in an unconventional manner.

I was taught by another little kid many years ago who obviously had no idea how to tie his laces and his peculiar method has stayed with me for life.

I have , like you, have had people make comment on my slingshot sidedraft overhand knot with pike or whatever you want to call it.

I think his name was Lester, or was that one of the sheep, anyway stick with Lester. We will call it Lesters Loop.

Take it easy.

My husband taught my boys how to tie their shoelaces, the conventional way, but the younger son couldn't quite grasp it. Then his Dad showed him how to do the Bunny Ears way and he caught on really fast. Well my boy is now 47 and still does the Bunny Ears much to everyones laughter. It's nice to keep up traditions.

My late husband was a fisherman ... his take on knots for every circumstance was very educational in our house ... from the never-come-undones to the a slipknot-for-every-occasion.

A whole world of fancy knots out there.

:) Personally, I'm a big fan of velcro, occy straps and magnetic clasps !!

No know-how knot-stuff for me at this stage of life.

My late husband was a fisherman too RnR. Used to be a rock fisherman but it became too dangerous. Loved fishing off the beaches, always got a few but usually gave them away, hated cleaning them. He had a newspaper article about him in the early 70's. He used to fish with a handreel and a hook and swim down amongst the fish, he reckoned he could pick the biggest ones that way. Sounded like a fisherman's tale to me.

:) Hola ... lots of 'fishy' tales at our place too.

I haven't tied shoe laces in decades -- must try and let you know which one I use

Always loved knots
