How to vacuum seal your food at home

One of the best ways to save money on food is to buy in bulk. The only problem with that is how to eat it all before it passes its use-by date. Here's a handy tip for vacuum-sealing food so you can keep it fresher for longer.

Do you have any other tips for how to keep food fresh? Why not share them with our members?

I have a proper Vacuum sealer and that I just watched does NOT seem to have sealed in the way the proper sealer does it and would NOT be safe to keep for an extended period.   You have to get every bit of air OUT.

Spot on, Plan B! I also have a proper vacuum sealer, and regularly vacuum-pack food - and this blokes video is total rubbish.

You need to create a VACUUM in the bag. There's no way this clown is creating any vacuum in the bag.

My vacuum sealer is only a cheapie, but it works reasonably well, if I'm careful.

But I've had joints that weren't sealed properly, and the bag leaked a little air back in again, resulting in much shorter food life.

Aaron, I have a Sunbeam and that also on occasions has failed

What can I say, this is definitely the cheapest method but it's definitely not vacuum sealing and as such will promote the growth of organisms that you do not want to be ingesting. This "helpful hint" should NOT be on any website !.

agree...you need to purchase a quality vacuum sealer...pay more money and get a good one.
