Four Corners - Escape from Aleppo

On Monday night I watched the Four Corners episode about a Syrian family living in Aleppo (Syria's largest city) and would recommend everyone takes 30 minutes out of their week to view the program.

The program follows a 'normal' family and shows their struggle in a city being overrun by ISIS ideals. There is great sadness and despair, but also hope and a greater sense of understanding in what Syrian refugees are fleeing.

I watched that too and yet again feel a sense of great sadness and helplessness. When we think of our minor troubles in this country, a look at how another family has to live should be a very sobering thought. When children in other countries draw pictures of happy events, this is what an Aleppo child sees each day. This is a drawing by one of the children who just escaped death. No child should have to draw  such pictures.

Will those who claim the Syrian refugees don't deserve help learn anything from this article?

I think they will if they take the time to watch it.

What one can learn from it was largely (if vaguely) known but such film docos put a human fdace on it.

One couldn't help but be disturbed by it but it needs no great thought to realise the utter futility of offering sanctuary to the millions affected by their internecine wars.  In reality, if it were possible to transport all those poor buggers to some place safe (such as in Australia) then, when we had them all tucked up and cosy here, they would most likely re-ignite their age-old animosities and start another stoush here.  It's in theri DNA.

We will NEVER understand their mindset.  Whilst watching that terrible show, I commented to my wife that we could but wonder how many of the participants could give us a coherent reason for the conflict!

The little boy pulled out of the rubble whose picture was shown around the world, his 10 year old brother died from his injuries. Quite easy to understand why his parents would decide to risk their lives and become refugees and try to get to a "safe" country, nothing left for them in Aleppo.

It is so sad that humans have to never be happy unless they are at war -- all these innocent people and Kids it is heart breaking -- I have recorded this and will watch it tonight

If one cannot help...at least try not to hinder those who do. These children did not ask to have bombs dropped on them..

The "need" to help these people is driven by altriusm

And?

No

I never watched it last night -- meant to but other things happened  I have it recorded so I will be watching it

War is despicable in any country. I watched a show  the other evening with Ross Kemp an Englishman who travels into war-torn areas and drug ghettos. He was in Africa and he was taken to an African Hospital which housed women and children who had been brutalised in the Rhwanda area. What those poor people had to suffer was unimaginable. Young girls 13 raped by men, some had their hands cut off and raped, when their father's refused to rape their daughters they had their eyes cut out and throats slashed. One three year old boy had been raped. These people have nowhere to go now and the hospital looks after them. I felt so hopeless when I heard their stories and there is nothing we can do. What those murderers did, animals wouldn't do to their own. Africa is swimming in riches, why don't they try and help their people?

I agree that what is happening in this world is deplorable and heartbreaking --

No offence to you HOLA but I wish everyone would not equate dreadful happenings with Animals -- as humans are far worse than ANY Animal and always have been.

The Apex gang in Melbourne is made up predominately of "poor African refugees".

Plan B - I'm not offended, I"m agree with you as I stated, "animals wouldn't treat their own as humans treat each other.".

Yes HOLA I just hear so many saying -- such as -- they just act like Animals -- when someone has done some horrific act -- or you wouldn't treat a dog that way  -- I might be super sensitive about Animals but I wish ALL animals were treated well  -- BTW  I know I am dreaming -- sadly

I didn't watch the show but I am so sad to hear that little boy has passed away. This innocent child deserved so much better in life. Include contraception with the food parcels so that more innocent children won't suffer from adult madness. Why is their city is being  bombed to rubble, instead of sending in land troops to fight ISIS? Civilians are being murdered by ISIS they don't need it from as Abbott said, "the goodies". When governments choose to end Syrian war there will be plenty of work available to who is left to pick up the pieces.

The photo above could very well be that of an Australian city if Muslims are continued to be allowed entry to this country.

I very much doubt it.

You'd make a good politician. Great attitude.

I hear you Fast Eddie, but what I fear most is the Violence that is coming to this country, it was never this bad before the intake of so called refugee's, and I am not refering to true refugee's ( who appreciate the help ) but the ones who enter under the radar

Violence in Australia these days is much lower than it it was 50 or 100 years ago.

Again, another typical political, head-in-the-sand type comment. Just ignore it and it will go away? Yeah, right. Apathy personified!

Thanks for the abusive nonsense Ed
