Top 100 films of the 21st century

This week, the BBC released its list of the 21st century's 100 greatest films, as picked by 177 film critics from around the world.

In an era when many proclaim the 'death of cinema', this list presents a strong case for the silver screen's continuing achievements. Many diverse, groundbreaking movies made the cut, with David Lynch's neo-noir mystery Mullholland Drive claiming top spot. Some of my personal favourites include Memento, The Social Network, Amelie, Inception, There Will Be Blood, Almost Famous and The Assassination of Jesse James – this abridged list alone shows the breadth of genres explored in the past 16 years. My pick for number one would have to be The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – a beautiful film that holds its own even against Golden Age heavyweights.

What do you think of this list? Which film would you have named as number one?

Must say I have never heard of most of these movies - and also find I have never heard of most of the Celebs mentioned on the TV

PlannB - I feel the same way, never heard of any of these movies. Now if they put up a list of the  top 100, 20th century movies I would certainly be interested.
