What is home to you?

Since my husband passed I have been going through a period of asking myself "What is home to you?" I sold the home which held many memories,  and we did have a wonderful time. I would say good memories help a lot.  Everything feels pretty temporary now. The boys have grown up and moved on and I am alone again. Music has a big place in my heart and when I hear that "special" tune it takes me back in time to another place. Don't get me wrong, I'm not feeling sorry for myself but it's not until you lose that special person, your "best friend" that you'll know what I mean. Thank God I have fantastic friends who are in the same place as I am and know what I mean. I'm grateful I have found YLC as it is a good place to be. I feel some of you are like Pen Friends.

Hola, I would never presume to know how devistating it is to lose your husband and best friend, and I hope it is a good few years before I have that experience, but it would be like stepping into another life..

I am sure there are a few that in here that are also in the same place as you,

This is why the people that set these forums up are so special, as it takes a lot of time and effort to moderate the masses , believe me..I know . It's sometimes a thankless task, but when there are people like you who appreciate the online companionship, it's worth the effort.

You often find members radiate toward each other through common ground and interests, and yes, I agree with you, it does feel like some are similar to pen friends ,of which you are one, and It's a nice feeling, which keeps us opening the door of YLC and walking in...and I do so like the elephant...:)

Cranky -  You're a very wise lady and thanks for the support you have shown . I just sit down sometimes and have a good look into the past and am so thankful for all I have been blessed with.  Some poor people never experience it. I have just received a phone call from a friend, they seem to sense when we should get together, so I'm off to catch up for brekky.  I too love my elephant, as they say, an elephant never forgets, that's my problem.

Home is not the same once the people who you made memories with have left it for whatever reason

the emptiness is not in the house though but in the hheart

Buenos tardes

Thanks Carlos, I appreciate your thoughts. Gracias.

CHIN up HOLA,    try and stay positive,    and keep yourself occupied,    things may seem pretty raw right now,    but it WILL get better,     as CARLOS has said,    its in the heart,    the memories we have that we hold dear,     but be thankful that you have GOOD memories,     take care,

Catsahoy -  Thanks a lot. I do have to keep the old chin up. I know many on here may be going through the same thing, it's either through divorce, illness or seperation, it's all rather the same thing. As you say good memories and photos help a lot.

Keep strong Hola...

Thea -  Thanks for those kind words. It's when one gets closer to anniversaries that we start to think, as the song goes, "What's it all About Alfie"?  I'm ok, I haven't got the old Irish/Scottish determination for nothing.  Thanks once again.

Stop winking at me Hola, I have enough women after me!!

Here's something my old Dad used to say: la vita è come un fiasco di vino !

Ray - I don't mind the odd wink especially if they are as attractive as you are.  And I looked up that meaning and does it mean, "Life is like a Bottle of Wine"?  I could take that two ways , Enjoy it slowly and savor it till the last drop, or go at it hard and regret it later. Am I close to the mark? Gee I wish I had studied another language.

Your translation is correct Hola "life is like a flask of wine" which is to be "enjoyed and savoured until the last drop" is the way to look at it. Keep smiling!!

I am tapping my foot and giving him flowers, but to no effect..

Ray's forsaken me now Hola...

Your irrisistable eyes have won his fair heart..LOLOL

Cranky - Bribeing with flowers won't get you anywhere, just stand in line like we all have to and vie for his attention, you know the male heart is fickle.

Haha, now cranks, you know I always save the best for last, BUT if you were offering cake instead of flowers, would have been there in a flash. If I don't have some cake soon, might have to consider this guy and just hope catsahoy isn't watching!

I lost my dear Husband 27 + years ago -- very young he was too -- he was just 50 by 3 weeks got ill at 48.

I am still in the same house that we moved into - Husband got ill 3 months after moving in very sad but I still love it here it was where we both wanted to be.

So very sad PlanB.

Life can be so cruel .

I am glad your husband got to share at least three months in your new home before he passed, and you are content to live with his memory in a place that you love.. :)

Plan B -  Yes. we all have a story to tell. Your husband was so young, taken too early. That is a long time to be without him. Bu we have to cheer up and continue to do the best we can. I live with the thought that we will be together again. Bless you.

Thanks cranky He was here for 21 months as I nursed him for 18 months but unable to go out at all, he suffered great pain with his illness,   very sad as we had waited and waited and worked hard to get here where we wanted to be for many years but we had to wait till we got work here.

Thanks HOLA -- what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

Hola, and PlanB....Sometimes words just aren't enough.... :)

Sandi, what a beautiful cake, it looks too good to eat.

thank you cranky,   i love cheese cake,     i think ray likes any cake,     ill enjoy a slice with a cuppa,

Please note, The cheesecake is free, But the mice are $5 a head....lol

That's a great looking slice of cheesecake Cranks. You must be a mind reader, just what I need after a hard day's work. Tell you what though will be tough going, chewing those mice heads, but since they're just the sort of treat Cats might like, I'll buy them all for her. Now at $5 per head, that's $30 if my math is right, or I might have to check this with Barak our resident "Sir."
