An end to summer slurping

Do you remember when the first heat of summer would burst through and you would run to the local milk bar for a Sunnyboy? The streets would be awash with orange-faced children, fighting to get the ice blocks out of their triangular ‘jail’!

Well sadly, times have changed and this rite of passage is being denied to the next generation, with The Daily Juice Co confirming that it will no longer produce these orange gems.

And who’s to blame? We are. A gradual decline in demand is the reason given by the company in a statement, “Unfortunately, Sunnyboy has experienced a sustained reduction in consumer demand over a long period of time, making it necessary to delete the product from our range of water ice treats.”

Surely they could have been given one last hurrah over summer?

What treat from childhood do you miss?

Never ever heard of Sunnyboy ..... my favourites were kohl-rabi, cailiflower and carrots, also enjoyed drinking fresh goat's milk.

Think you must be a lot younger than me Debbie as sunny boys didn't come into being until the 70's when I had my kids and they loved them.  My eldest must have been about 5 yeasrs old then and I remember first seeing them in Showbags at the Royal Show in Adelaide.

I remember that in NSW we used to get Snow cones.  A cup of crushed ice with flavouring poured over the top.

Was never brought up on anything other than good food and we had the occasional treat of a glass of lemonade and an icecream.

I think when you have not had a lot of exposure to food that is low in nutritional value you do not go looking for it when older...well I know I don't anyway.   Occasionally I will buy chocolate, enjoy it, and then go a long while before I buy any more.

Soft drinks..probably one a year at that.  After watching a doco on what sugar does to you it has made me more conscious of reading lables (if you"can" read them of course...the manufacturers really don't want that ..do they?) :)

I have never heard of Sunny Boys -- did like the Mango Wies bars though

we loved SUNNY BOYS,   even hubby,   they are only blocks of ice with flavouring in them,     my girls liked the cola ones,    no different to icy poles,   just a different shape and packaging,

Make your own you lazy buggers.
