Daylight Saving starts Sunday October 2

Clocks will be put forward by one hour from 2am AEST tomorrow in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the ACT.

You’re probably blissfully unaware that, for the rest of the country, confusion reigns.

For the coolers six months of the year, Australia runs on three simple time zones: Australian Eastern Standard Time, Australian Central Standard Time and Australian Western Standard Time.

From this weekend, however, we move to five.

Also known as timezone terror.

We have daylight savings too and I see no problem, just adapt. Tomorrow, more time to spend at the pumpkin festival to choose some great pumpkins for halloween. guess you folks will be celebratin halloween, american tradition?

Sadly, too many Australians do now celebrate Halloween. It didn't exist in here when I was a kid.

It's emergence has been entirely driven by American TV, American films, and the costume and confectionary industries.

now I know a thing or two bout this. 'ween as we call it came from the Irish, Irish convicts took it to Australia. so blame everything on the Americans.

Irish convicts did not bring it to Australia. I repeat, it didn't exist here when I was a kid.

I don't think you were around when the Irish convicts came to Australia Barak.

True. However, if they did bring it to Australia, it died.

What silly arguments against dayligh saving could only be had on an old fogeys site . It's called fun folks . Won't fade your curtains

hhere have a guffah over this, off to hit the sack.

That is ridiculous, but certainly shows determination!

It also highlights another problem with Halloween in Australia. It happens in Spring, so pumpkins are a rarity.

I love the pumpkin  Hiker...some pretty curtains..a few cushions on the floor and some candlelight and it would make the most perfect reading nook for me:)

BARAK,   what are you talking about,     pumpkins a rarity,  ?   where do you live, ? certainly no shortage of pumpkins here,    south market is full of them,    they are available all year round,

Halloween is the night before Thanksgiving, celebrating the harvest season in the US and Europe. It's not the harvest season where I live.

Some verrrrry strange people on here Cats. My wife bought a pumpkin today and just had some great home made soup.

Barak, do you live in Australia?

apologies barak,    i was under the belief that you lived in australia,

What idiotic comments.

You said there were no pumpkins, why say that? If you live in Oz you'd have pumpkins all year round.

same here REAGAN,     i bought half a one yesterday,    i was under the impression that BARAK lived in australia,    even in the bush,   [especialy in the bush ] you get pumpkins all year round,    ya,    some funny people.

I am not talking about the whole of Australia, nor what one can import from other parts of the country.

I am wondering abiut the comprehension of some here.

Do you actually understand climate?

Barak lives in the bush?? I didn't know that Cats.

Understand climate?? Does "Climate" speak English?

yes,   i understand about the climate,    ONE,    pumpkins can be grown anywhere,   in any climate,    [maybe not the poles]    but i have travelled a bit in australia,   and ALWAYS had pumpkins,

AHH,    REAGAN,    it all makes sense now,    HE LIVES IN THE BUSH,      no PUMPKINS IN THE BUSH,    lol,

When I was a kid Barak, we had cracker night.  No Irish criminals & I think I am a lot older than you.

I'm with you on both those statements innes. Guy Fawkes Night was 5th November. It seemed to fit with the general Australian view of parliament, blowing it up.

No thoughts of Halloween.

...you are older than possibly anyone on YLC Innes???   - lol lol lol

Some instinct tells me Innes is not..nor am I or anyone else ...so I wonder who that leaves ...lol lol lol

Origins of Halloween Like lot of American traditions and words they were original old English but died out in the mother country

How did Daylight saving, turn into Guy Fawkes night and get entangled with Halloween?

It can only happen in here...

All wandering aimlessly off the topic track as usual...lol

haha, only on YLC. It's like having three seasons in one day!

We got to try and spend our saved hour somehow

doesnt worry me,    i get up when i wake,   go to bed when im tired,     an hour makes no difference to my life,    although hubby hates it,    [but then,[lol
