Bourke Street Mall today

I am just so , so upset at what has happened today.

What is wrong with people!!!

You make a fair point Robi - just how responsible for his actions was he? People can be mentally ill but still know the difference between right and wrong. Hopefully he will be assessed by GOOD psychiatrists who are not easily gulled.

The killer’s Facebook page

That chaotic raving is full of grandiose delusion which suggests he was in the throws of a manic psychotic episode. I wonder if his family tried to get any mental health help for him? It's dated 9/1 so looks like he was well into it weeks before yesterday.

The Facebook post has had four Likes.

That's a worry.

the man was out on bail due to an apprehended violence order,   WHY was he on bail in the first place,    it was known that he was violent,    the bloody people in the judiciary  should hang there heads in shame,    this happens FAR to often,    young women are being killed by ex boyfriends,   who have been on bail,   WHY ARE THEY GETTING BAIL,        this mongrel was due to reappear in court again yesterday,  the law today beggers belief,

Where did you get the story about the bail being related to an AVO?

I did what you recommend tonight, and watched TV news! Police official said they were not at liberty to disclose what he was on bail for.

IT WAS ON LAST NIGHTS NEWS,   AND IN THE HERALD SUN TODAY,

The Hun is Murdoch. I won't buy it, and the website is subscription only. He's not getting any of my money.

I DID watch a commercial news. Didn't hear it.

Got a link? I'd like to learn more about it.

Thanks RnR.

It's always worth looking carefully at the language actually used by police, and sometimes by the media when it's being responsible.

There's nothing in that article about an AVO, catsahoy's claim. It does say he was "was bailed by a bail justice following the assault of his mother’s partner Gavin Wilson." Note that it doesn't say he DID assault Wilson, maybe because one is innocent until proven guilty.

The Police Commissioner also said "What we do know of the person is there is an extensive family violence history involved". Now, that's not good, but since his record of violence was seemingly only against family members, and it wasn't just him being violent within the family, there was no reason for a bail justice to see him as a threat to the general public. Unless you want to abolish bail in all cases (another argument altogether) granting bail in that case would seem quite reasonable.

BARAK,   [i dont know why im bothering really]    i DONT pay for news,     there are three news channels,     CH9,    CH7,      SBS,    SBS3,      and ABC,   [Sorry there are 4]      it was on them all,  it said HE WAS ON AN APPREHENDED ORDER,    re his girlfriend,  [i think]       have all the papers here so can go back,

if you go back on that  piece RnR PUT UP,   it says,    HE WAS  WANTED FOR VIOLENCE,      READ, MAN READ,

The man is of Islamic origin and saw himself as an angel of death.

Yeah. Right.

He is Greek Banjo. Where did you hear he is "of Islamic origin"?

Unlike YOU, I don't hear things.

I deal in facts and use my brain to find them.

Yeah. Right.

Some information for the very ignorant:

Although the actual numbers are uncertain, there are an estimated 370,000 Muslims in Greece, approximately 3.5 percent of the population. Most are from Albania, although there is an indigenous Muslim community in Thrace of about 120,000 persons.

http://www.euro-islam.info/country-profiles/greece/

Yes. Now find as good a source for this bloke's background.

Where is the connection there Robi?  It is my understanding that Muslims are not restricted to race or Country.  There are still many people of Islamic origin in Greece.  You probably will be surprised to know that there are well over 23 million Chinese Muslims & there are even 65,000 Muslims in Catholic Ireland.

Stop just throwing numbers around. Was this guy Muslim, or wasn't he?

What I want to know is this scum was out on bail WHY!

I wonder how many years he will get -- maybe 3 or 4 ?

See my post above.

I suspect he was on bail because he was, quite reasonably, not seen as a threat to the general public. See my post above around an hour before this one.

We cannot afford to keep all charged people in remand centres.

You are, OF COURSE, correct Barak.  Why would any reasonable Bail Sergeant refuse bail to a mad man just because he stabbed his mother's boy friend in the neck?  You would think it might only save 5 lives or something equally silly.

Congratulations on ignoring the core points of both of my posts on this. Did you read the earlier one?

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews will not be drawn on a likely overhaul of the bail system following a special meeting of the Government's emergency and security subcommittee today, in response to Friday's Bourke Street tragedy.

On the agenda at the meeting was potential reform to the state's bail laws, including whether Victoria will continue to use after-hours volunteer bail justices, who are not used in any other state.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said it was his job to take the "anger and frustration" Victorians were feeling and put that into reform and change. But he would not elaborate on what was discussed at the meeting and how bail laws might be reformed.

ABC: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-01-22/melbourne-car-attack-leaders-pay-respects-premier-bail-changes/8201252

..... new laws affecting "Bail" are being "drawn up now" according to Daniel Andrews in an interview this morning ....let's hope they hurry it up!!!!

A memorial service is being held at 5.30pm this evening for "all"  ...........  :(

The new bail laws are unlikely to be in a form that would have kept this killer in jail.

He was known by police for domestic violence incidents within his own family. He had no record of being any risk to the general public. No bail justice could be expected to have anticipated his change of target.

Can you imagine how many people would be in jail if nobody charged with domestic violence ever got bail. The state doesn't have enough jail cells.

The new bail laws are simply designed to convince the masses (and Foxy) that the government is doing something to protect them, not to actually prevent incidents like the Bourke Street one, because they can't.

Breaking News:   Monday 5.30pm ....... 23/1

This "cretin" has just refused all "orders" to appear in court tomorrow to face the murder charges of these poor innocent people!  He is now making 'terms and conditions" regarding his charges!!!!

He is now asking not to appear in court but wants to appear via costly "video-link" as he is too ill from his bloody gunshot wound (in his arm)  to appear!  Pity the cops only shot him in the arm!

What a JOKE!!!!!!    Once again this creep has/will have more "rights" than the innocent "victims"!  I'm totally outraged!!! Outraged!!!

....and I'm  guessing so will most Melbournians when they get to hear this latest news ................

He claims to be too ill to appear, he knows he is too damn scared to appear in court as the lynch mob will be waiting outside.

Do you approve of lynch mobs?

Truly moral people maintain their standards of civilisation when others lower theirs.

If this disgusting piece of low life is well enough to be released from hospital I cannot see why he cannot sit in Court.

He is a gutless wonder in my books and I agree with you Foxy...the police should have taken a better shot at him and saved us the expense and time of putting him before the courts.

Rads - if this were the U.S.A. - this lowlife creep would be in bright orange overalls - shackled (both feet and hands) and dragged into court by Police Officers and thrown into a chair in a Courtroom!

VicPol are probably gonna' watch in anger whilst he drinks expensive latte's - has a Crispy Cream Donut and waves -  smiles and blows kisses at people!!

Outrageous!!!!  Lost for words over this latest news ........sickening .....

Foxy - He has been remanded in custody, and not on bail this time. Who's going to buy him these lattes and donuts?

His Legal Team?   You?    lol

BTW - I said "probably" - ok with that??   Called "sarcasm"!

Whatever you say.

In custody till August!

He must have a lot of hate in him to do what he did, he probably hates himself most of all but takes that out on others as he sees fit.  What a confused mind.  I would not mind betting he is being held in solitary confindment.

the court officials should have dragged him by his bloody neck,   kicking and screaming,   if need be ,  to the dock,      he was probably dead scared someone might take a pot shot at him,

IMO bring back guns and this sort of thing would not be happening so much -- countries where they are allowed guns have hardly ANY crime at all!    (forget the USA and their STUPID,  anyone can buy a gun)

Have a look at the graph in this article and see where Australia ranks.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-u-s-gun-deaths-compare-to-other-countries/

Thank you Radish for the graph info.

No probs CindyLou...I am very glad we have fairly strict gun laws here and we do not have the number of deaths as  the US.
