Today show host Lisa Wilkinson has quit the popular Channel Nine morning show after a pay dispute, to pursue a role with Channel 10's The Project from January 2018.

Wilkinson did not appear alongside host Karl Stefanovic to open the program on Tuesday morning, with Deb Knight filling in for her.

Stefanovic opened the show at 5.30am on Tuesday by acknowledging it was a "very big" day following the shock departure of his co-host after a decade.

There are rumours that her deal with Channel 10 makes her the highest paid woman on Australian TV.

What do you think? Will you miss Wilkinson on the Today show? Do you think she will fit in at The Project? Is this a sign Channel 10 will invest in quality content under CBS ownership?

Lisa had every right to be paid equally as should ALL women!

However, I would rather see Lisa on The Project than the sleazy Wally fella.

Mez, Lisa was paid what she was worth. Karl was exclusive to 9, did more work than Lisa who had various other contractual arrangements.

I am sorry to read such unpleasant comments about Lisa Wilkinson from people who know nothing about her except what they read in the newspaper. Lisa has achieved so much in her career..her achievements list is to be proud of including being the youngest ever editor of Cleo magazine…to a young journalist that must have been a feather in her hat to be able to connect with thousands of women older than herself.

Now at 57 she has done it again…she is still achieving…if Channel Nine could not see her worth..then it is their loss..I for one am proud she is sending out a message that women who do the same work as men should be receiving the same benefits…unfortunately..the mentality is such still in some areas that.. whenever a clever woman opens her mouth to speak about equality..she is called a feminist…if feminism is being strong..standing up to bullies and making every attempt to smash the glass ceiling..then count me in…

Australian Bureau of Statistics studies of Australia’s almost nine million employees have found only 151,000 were women earning $2000 a week or more, compared with 570,400 men.(Note: these figures may be slightly out dated..nevertheless..women are still on the lower rung of the ladder).

The ABS reports looked at employee earnings and also analysed information by gender. In every wage category, on average, women earn less than men from the time they start work through to retirement.

Keelia Fitzpatrick, Youth Officer with the Victorian Trades Hall Council, said for young women who finished university, the gender pay gap was present from day one of their careers. “Figures show that across industries female graduates will earn on average $2000 less per year than their male counterparts,” Ms Fitzpatrick said. “This debunks the myth that the gender pay gap can be explained by family commitments.”

Today..the pay gap remains at 18 per cent…

I am also puzzled at the vitriol directed towards Peter FitzSimons…why? Because he wears a red bandana? It’s never even occurred to me to question why he wears a red bandana…I just put it down to being slightly eccentric…I like eccentric people whom I find far more interesting than the boring sheeple who never have the courage to do anything out of the ordinary…

Peter FitzSimons is one of Australia’s biggest selling non-fiction authors of the last twenty years. He has written over twenty seven books…he speaks four languages..he is a busy motivational speaker. He writes for the SMH and other newspapers. He was also named a Member of the Order of Australia for service to literature as a biographer.. sports journalist and commentator.. and to the community through contributions to conservation.. disability care.. social welfare and sporting organisations.

I met Peter here in Perth at an event in his honour and was totally impressed with his humour..kindness and dedication to worthwhile causes.. Now that brings us back to the “red bandana”..and the malicious comments about his wearing of it…so I went looking and found this lovely article which throws some light…not that it's anybody's business mind...

Meanwhile, more than one woman a week is murdered by her spouse in Australia.
