Where do I stand

Hi everybody - hope you all expect the Easter Bunny soon

i have a question as the wife and I are both on part aged pensions we are both in our seventies

our granddaughter lives in the country and is attending university in Melbourne

costs for the girl are high and we have limited funds however we would like her to stay with us but she believes she should contribute

if we accepted say thirty dollars per week would this have an affect on our pension

should we advise Centrelink as this may be considered income

appreciate your opinions as some of you would be in this situation

kind regards

No it won’t

Hi Peter ..tis a while since you have been on the forum ...good to see you again :)

It is your family not an airbnd ... I am sure whatever your grandie gives you will be spent back on her... so there is no reason to advise Centerlink as that is not considered as income.

there is no need to tell centerlink,    i dont think it would be enough to upset your pension,   but why tell them?      it is only a small amout,  and as SUZE said,   you would be spending it back on her,   ,  take in food,   electricty,  gas , water,   you wont be making anything,   tell them nothing,

I agree with the posters above, no need to even tell them, but questions might be asked if for instance she happens to be claiming expenses for living away from home.  Or even if she just innocently mentions she is paying 'rent' to someone.

I was able to claim the first home owners bonus on a house I bought just after my husband and I separated.  I moved away for a about seven months (work related) during the first year that I owned it and my son and his girlfriend moved in.  They were paying me a small amount of money, just enough to cover the electricity etc.  I got a call from the Guv'ment 'suggesting' I should repay the first home owner's bonus as my home was now being rented.

As soon as I explained that the 'tenant' was my son they backed off.  To this day I have no idea how they found out.
