Would you pay for your kids to play in the mud?

We have a festival running here at the moment.

On the weekend, in a local park, a non-profit organisation set up something they were calling Mud World.  Essentially it was just a huge tarp and a big pile of dirt. Add water and hey presto, you have - mud.  Throw in a length of black plastic and you have a slide.

There were sessions of three hours a piece. Adult supervision was required, one adult to every two children and it cost $25 per child, per session.

It was covered on TV and the kids all appeared to be having a ton of fun.  Their dads also seemed to enjoying it, probably even more than the kids. LOL

I guess with housing estates being built on such small blocks of land these days there isn't room in any backyard to do this sort of thing anymore, not like when we were kids and bits of plastic and a hose made a free slide.  Mud was free as well. LOL

Pretty much all the things on offer at this festival are being run by various charities and that's a good thing, no problem there, but would you be willing to pay $25 so your kids could play in the mud?

All I can say is this saddens me to think we have come to this very unnatural way of playing when that was just the way it was back in the day, went and played in the creek or river and kids acted like kids

I can remember playing in the backyard making mud pies. We also built a small castle made of mud. We would spend all day building it and used paddle pop sticks pretending they were humans. It's a shame children don't get to use their imagination these days. They have to depend on electronic games or Lego. There is so much children can learn but I'm afraid the parents never have much time for them. It's either T.V. or the computer.

Yes HOLA AND the Mothers go back to work not long after having kids -- IMO it is so darn sad AND WRONG

I have a very old photos showing us doing the same thing...small mounds of mud and we would have the hose going all over the place and our hands and faces were covered in brown mud.

:) My mother was horrified when I came inside one day totally covered in mud, head to toe. Fun as I remember it. My grandkids are fond of mud too.
