14 road rules most drivers don't know

A quick and easy read on www.news.com.au this morning will get you up to speed with what it says are 14 road rules no one knows.

I for one knew quite a few, but htere were a couple of surorises in there, such as playing music too loud and beeping your horn for the wrong reasons.

  1. Sleeping in your car while drunk, even with the ignition off

  2. Playing music that’s too loud

  3. Beeping your horn for the wrong reasons

  4. Flashing your lights to warn other drivers of speed cameras

  5. Being a middle lane hog

  6. Believing the 10 per cent speed limit myth

  7. Driving too slowly

  8. Not attaching your phone to a stand while using maps

  9. Eating, drinking, doing your makeup and changing music

  10. Letting your passenger hold their baby while you’re driving

  11. Not turning your lights on in the dark

  12. Having dirt on your number plate

  13. Driving through a puddle to splash mud on bus passengers

  14. Parking on a footpath.

How many of these road rules were you unaware of?

Funniest one "Driving through a puddle to splash mud on bus passengers"  but ok to splash anyone else, LOL

I know it's strange spelling out bus passengers only and it's only in NSW - I think a politician at some point was at a bus stop, was splashed by a vehicle so wanted this law brought in.

I knew most of these. A few odd ones that are probably state specific not Australia wide.  What is too loud????The one that many drivers don't seem to know but was part of the Australia wide rules in the late 1990s Give way to pedestrians when turning...

My bugbear is interstate drivers who fail to read up on differences between states. Like doing U-Turns at Qld traffic lights or towing an unregistered trailer (even if allowed in Vic)

There should be uniform road rules throughout Aust

Yes. We are one country which should have one set of road rules.

My bugbear is no 14.  Parking on the footpath.  I don't see why I should have to go on the road and risk being hit by a car because some idiot parks on the footpath.  Wouldn't be so bad if they left enough room to get past, or it was a small car but most of them are SUV size or parked crooked so that you can't get past.
Had an arguement with a driver who was parking like that when he said it was perfectly legal and I told him it wasn't.  Also told him next time would make sure I had my phone on me to take a photo and would be sending to to police.  He hasn't done it since.
