Help using iPhone?

I was just given an iphone by my daughter and i have absolutely no idea what im doing with it. I culd use some help and ive been looking at books online. The two i've found are "iPhone for Dummies" and "iPhone Manual for Beginners". I really hate those for dummies books its like reading an encyclopedia. Anyone have any recommendations?

Jack,  if you need help with the iPhone -- Google the make and model and you can bring up the manual for it then file it away -- in your documents on the computer -- or print it out --

Your local library should have regular tech talks and a helping group.  Search online for the community program for the libraries near you.  Too easy.

You could try these websites Jack. Hope they help.

What is the make and model of your iPhone, Jack?

iPhone XS. Thanks everyone for the comments. I looked at the official user manual online but thats not exactly what I am looking for. The official manual is over 500 pages! I am going to try the iphone manual for beginners book. Says its for seniors, we'll see.

Thanks to Manulis for bringing up the iPhone X subject and Sophie for these truly relevant and useful Youtube links.  The Apple ones are consistently short enough to hold our attention.

I've been a Mac user for over 10 years including iPads but my iPhone XR is my first smartphone of any description.  It is certainly an amazing device.

Manulis, you have a very capable camera for both stills and video in your hand.  The picture quality is well worthwhile playing with.

Make sure that you keep the operating system up to date (presently iOS12.3) as there are incremental improvements.  I'd suggest that you get a Qi induction charger for it as just dropping it in the charge cradle is so much easier than plugging it in when a recharge is needed.

I'm about to explore Siri for sending text messages as this will be so much simpler than having to tap the message on the keypad.

Remember that when at home it connects into your Wifi and won't use your phone data allowance.

How do people know that this poster Manulis is JACK?

We have psychic powers. How good is that?

Good question greenie,  I answered to  "Jack" did this person repost???

Youtube or a 5 year old

Um can't you ask your daughter?

Failing that what about one of the local kids aged about 12 - 16. The very little ones under 12 can use them but not very good at explaining.

Manulis, I've responded to the response from Sophie and I endorse her suggestion.  The helpful videos on Youtube I find much easier to stimulate my interest than many of the priinted guides.  Follow through on your iPhone is a big help.

Fifteen minutes with a "live" video seems easier to learn from than a static text.

I doubt if I'll ever use Pages to write the next great literary triumph though.  But it is a fully fledged word processor if you ever need one.

One really fun function is "Flyover" in Maps.  Open Maps and type in Eiffel Tower in the search and when it opens, tap "Flyover".  "Start City Tour".  Another is Westminster Abbey. Also Sydney with the Opera House.

This iPhone is so much more than a mobile telephone.  I mowed my mother's lawn on Wednesday and the Health app shows that I walked over 5 kilometres.  Over 8 thousand steps, but no flights of stairs.

If I put credit on ApplePay, it may be more important than the old American Express and never leave home without it.

i went from Samsung J16 to a Samsung J7 pro...girl in Telstra took the sim card out of the old one into the new one and I promptly lost my $177 credit (I have prepaid which rolled over).

Rang Telstra and was told to go into Settings and turn off Internet and Data..most annoyed Telstra did not do that in the first place as I told her I only wanted (at this stage) for phone and text.

Have no idea where the money went and on what as I had not made a call or text...was told something about the phone updating.

Want to get onto using data but frightened to turn anything back on in case the new balance I have disappears as well!!
