Do New Zealanders have the right to Australian Benefits?

New Zealanders claiming they are being racially discriminated against while living in Australia want a Hollywood star to join a potential class action lawsuit.

The expats say 'racist laws' give them 'inferior rights', including not being able to vote, receive Centrelink payments or obtain student loans.

Campaign group Kiwis in Australia are pushing for a class action lawsuit to remove strict immigration laws and have asked Oscar winner Russell Crowe for support.

The actor has appeared on stamps in Australia and has two children born in the country but still struggled to obtain citizenship.

Simple answer - no. We already have too many people gatecrashing our country for economic reasons.

Yes with all these refugees and asylum seekers flying in these days but Mr Dutton is turning a blind eye to it. Many more coming in that way than ever came in by boat.

Why can't Kiwis get Australian citzenship?

Oh dear Tanker, off on a tangent again. The point about those choosing to fly to Australia is that they have identification and a visa allowing them to enter the country, we have a good idea who they are unlike illegal attempts to arrive by boat without permission. Kiwis, or any person from outside Australia, can apply for citizenship, the obvious word being "apply".

Do australians get New zealand benefits? How can they claim racial discrimination. They are actually foreigners in OZ. Nothing to do with race!.

They can, but is lower than Aust pension. That is why NZer's want to come here. If you are an Aussie in NZ, your Australian pension is taxed by NZ.

Utter BS non citizens should never have the same rights and privilges of citizens

Cassius

does that also apply to paying tax when non citizens work I remind you there supermax of so called Australia citizen that have no loyalty to Australians

The rules around Australians and New Zealanders entitlements and rights, both here and in New Zealand, is set out in a document agreed between the governments of both countries. Just because there are more New Zealanders in Australia than Australians in New Zealand shouldn't make any difference to the rules. I find it difficult to accept what people say when they spend their working life pretending to be someone else.

Bloody hell, Horace. Theres more New Zealanders in Ausralia than in New Zealand. The land of Milk and honey To them.

I remember in the late sixties seeing grafitti which amused me. It read. " Would the last one to leave New Zealand turn the lights off"

I saw that grafitti in Bondi back when. Bondi was reported to have had the second largest population of Kiwis after Auckland.

New Zealand is not the 8th state of Australia. New Zealand is a country completely independent of Australia, hence New Zealanders need to be mindful of their entitlements, or lack thereof, before they choose to turn their back on their own country.

New Zealand is a beautiful country with beautiful people, but just because they are a close Commonweath neighbour, I would not expect preferential treatment to other immigrants to New Zealand if I chose to live there.

Australia does not 'owe' New Zealand and New Zealand does not 'owe' Australia. As close 'friends', I only ask that we have each other's backs.

Any Kiwi who thinks he's being discriminated against in Australia should try visiting the New Zealand health service as an Australian. It cost us $180 to visit a GP and over $200 for medication for which it costs them $5.00. They often complain about the number of criminal deportations; well there's any easy solution to that, don't do the crime.

I have to laugh at some of the comments, particularly when people haven't checked their facts or  have made stereotyped generalisations.  I can comment as a NZ born, naturalised Australian. When my family migrated in 1970 there was no paperwork on entry necessary. We have all worked hard  and contributed well to society.  I could write a list of responses but here is only one: There are many different circumstances that lead people to migrate ,and with constant law changes, even within the same family, as mine, cut-off dates and clauses exclude citizenship to people who have worked in professional jobs and paid taxes here for 30 years. Believe me- there are very many Happy Australians living in excellent conditions in NZ -and why not??

Zac

agree I've worked with many co workers from NZ many were eligible for citizenship and entitled to benefits it charged aoprox 2002

my ex husbands nephew moved to NZ years ago and loves it

Living and working in a country other than the one you hold citizenship of does not and should not confer on you the same rights and responsibilities as the citizens of your chosen country. If you want welfare, then apply to become a citizen and meet the required criteria. If not and the original country is still 'home' then pay your way and don't expect handouts. Being a long term or permenant resident does not make you a citizen with the same rights (tax payment notwithstanding).

agree!  amuses me that the word "racism" is banded around so often.   the word is trotted out as a matter of course and has lost any meaning as far as I am concerned.

lol   try telling that to the Chinese people right now!
