Prince Charles has urged the country to put 'our planet and our children and grandchildren first' in an editorial written in Country Life magazine, which he has guest edited to celebrate his 72nd birthday

He added: 'We have a very short window of opportunity, which must not be squandered, in which to seize something good from this crisis and, as we rebuild, to put Nature, our planet and our children and grandchildren first.'

The magazine's publication came just days after the royal echoed similar thoughts speaking at a virtual eco-summit.

Speaking on climate change at the virtual Green Horizon Summit, the royal said: 'I'm afraid we are literally at the last step.

'And there is real urgency for action, designed to mobilise the financial sector in the run-up to a U.N. climate change conference next year.

'We know now what we have to do to rescue the situation, rather than going on, talking about it.'

He outlined 10 immediate actions that could make a significant difference from mobilising investment in sustainable infrastructure to increasing carbon capture use and storage to 'buy us precious time' as the world moves to a net zero economy.

'We must start accounting for natural capital on companies' balance sheets,' he said.

In September, Charles called for a military-style response to the threat of climate change reminiscent of the U.S. Marshall Plan to rebuild post-war Europe, saying the world was facing a catastrophe.

'With the urgency required, I hope you will join me to drive a new Marshall-like plan for nature, people and planet, led by the private sector to align our collective efforts and resources for the highest possible impact,' he told the summit.

It comes as Charles eldest son Prince William has also launched his own campaign setting up the £50 million Earthshot prize dubbed the 'green Nobel prize'.

Launched on October 8 by the second-in-line and a global coalition of individuals, businesses and organisations, The Earthshot Prize aims to find new solutions to the world's biggest environmental problems.

The nominees can be individuals, communities, businesses and organisations whose solutions make the most progress towards achieving the five Earthshots – which are simple but ambitious goals which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, for generations to come.

The Duke of Cambridge has followed in his father Prince Charles' footsteps as a passionate campaigner to live in a greener world, with him recently saying he 'gets upset and is kept awake at night by politicians' failure to act over climate change.

I've always liked Prince Charles and hope his Mother steps down from royal duties soon to let him be crowned King, he has waited long enough.

Hi Hola.

I have always thought in the modern day, a Monarch should retire at 65!

Look at Queen Beatrice she retired for her son, I think leaving the abdication now is too late, it is sad really.   I personally think she likes to rule the roost with the men in her family!  LOL

Prince Charles to stress importance of UK and Germany bond on historic visitRhiannon Mills, royal correspondent  7 hrs ago

The Prince of Wales will stress the need for Britain and Germany to "reaffirm our bond for the years ahead" during a historic trip to Berlin as tense Brexit talks continue.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will attend the central remembrance ceremony in Berlin to commemorate the annual national day of mourning tomorrow, at the request of the British government, following an invitation from the president of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

It will be the first time a member of the British Royal Family has ever attended the ceremony.

The visit and speech can be seen as display of how the UK government still wish to be seen to be extending the hand of friendship to its EU neighbours as Brexit trade talks continue.

The prince will say: "As our countries begin this new chapter in our long history, let us reaffirm our bond for the years ahead.

"Let us reflect on all that we have been through together, and all that we have learned.

"Let us remember all victims of war, tyranny and persecution; those who laid down their lives for the freedoms we cherish, and those who struggle for these freedoms to this day.

The royal couple flew to Berlin on the newly painted RAF Voyager

"They inspire us to strive for a better tomorrow - let us make this our common cause."

He will also reflect on the shared interests and goals of the two countries, including climate change and combating racial and religious hatred.

Prince Charles will add: "We must be resolute in addressing acts of unspeakable cruelty against people for reasons of their religion, their race or their beliefs, wherever they occur in the world.

"We must stand alongside each in determined defence of the future we owe our children and our grandchildren.

"The challenges to that future are manifest - whether from this dreadful pandemic which threatens not just our public health but our prosperity and security; or from the existential threat to our planet, and our way of life, from climate change and catastrophic biodiversity loss.

"These crises demand that we act together, and the partnership between the United Kingdom and Germany offers such a vital opportunity in this regard.

"We are heavily invested in each other's futures, such that our national interests, whilst distinct, will always be entwined."

The prince, who is celebrating his 72nd birthday today, and Camilla flew to Germany this evening on RAF Voyager, with its new union flag colour scheme.

It is a rare overseas visit for members of the Royal Family this year.

The usual programme of foreign tours has been cancelled over the past nine months because of COVID-19.

Prince Charles and Camilla will attend the wreath-laying ceremony at the Neue Wache Memorial, before joining the Central Remembrance Ceremony at the German parliament, where the prince will deliver his speech.

It comes after a week of ongoing Brexit negotiations in London. Talks on a free trade agreement have been put on "pause" over the weekend before resuming next week in Brussels.

While a number of deadlines have come and gone, there is increasing concern that if an agreement cannot be reached in the coming days it will be too late to implement before 1 January.

The national day of mourning in Germany is focusing this year on the German-British friendship, and how it has grown since the end of the Second World War.

The event pays tribute to the Allied commitment to the liberation from Nazi occupation and to the reconstruction, re-democratisation and subsequent reunification of Germany. It also remembers all victims of war and tyranny.

Prince William backs probe into Bashir Princess Diana interview

The Duke of Cambridge (middle) has dubbed Lord Dyson's independent investigation into whether Mr Bashir (left) conned his mother into their notorious 1995 Panorama interview (top right) 'a step in the right direction.' William, who was a teenager when the interview took place, today said: 'The independent investigation is a step in the right direction. It should help establish the truth behind the actions that led to the Panorama interview and subsequent decisions taken by those in the BBC at the time.' The BBC today appointed one of Britain's most decorated judges to lead a probe into allegations of forgery, deceit and cover-up surrounding Mr Bashir's interview with Princess Diana. Lord Dyson, former Master of the Rolls who also stood as a Justice of the Supreme Court, has said he will start his inquiry 'straight away' by interviewing corporation staff and having access to available records. He also promised Mr Bashir a 'thorough and fair' investigation following sensational claims the journalist secured the Princess of Wales's trust by faking two bank statements. Fair enough ... sounds rather dodgy from reading the news.

Wonder how the Queen and Prince Phillip will spend their 73rd wedding anniversary tomorrow.

In 2019, the Queen still performing her royal duties, spent her 72nd wedding anniversary in London.
Meanwhile, Philip now retired was 110 miles away in Sandringham, Norfolk at the estate’s Wood Farm.

The wedding of Princess Elizabeth, elder daughter of King George VI and heir presumptive to the British throne, and Philip Mountbatten, a former Greek and Danish prince, took place on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey in London. Philip had been made Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich on the morning of the wedding.

Locked up I guess, we have our Wedding Annivesary next week.

The Queen and Prince Philip are all smiles in a new portrait released to mark their 73rd wedding anniversary as they read a homemade card from their great-grandchildren.

I was sitting on my grandfathers knee that day and he was listening to the BBC I asked him why the church bells were ringing?  His reply was  'The Princess is getting married"  that is about one of my earliest memories.

I hope Catherine doesn't do this to her face!

I think it makes her look older personally.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly handed the keys of Frogmore Cottage over to Princess Eugenie after clearing out the property 'in the dead of night.'

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who currently reside in a £11million mansion in California, are said to have emptied the house in what an insider claims is a 'pretty strong sign' the couple have 'no plans to return.'

Eugenie, 30, and her husband Jack Brooksbank, 34, moved into the five-bedroom home in Windsor two weeks ago, according to The Sun.

The pair, who married at St George's Chapel in October 2018, are expecting their first child and are said to be 'delighted' with Frogmore Cottage.

An insider has claimed Harry and Meghan had their possessions shipped off to California after 'removal vans pitched up in the dead of night and cleared out the cottage.'

The source added: 'Emptying their home and handing over the keys is a pretty strong sign Harry and Meghan have no plans to return.

'It appears they are tying up loose ends as they plan to extend their stay in the US perhaps permanently.'

It is understood Eugenie and her cousin reached a 'private agreement' over the Grade II-listed cottage though it is not known how long it will last.

The property, which was gifted to the couple by the Queen ahead of their wedding in May 2018, remains Harry and Meghan's UK residence.

According to the Daily Mail ...

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'struck deal to hand Frogmore Cottage over to Princess Eugenie without the knowledge of senior royals'

Who would know ... again according to the DM:

Buckingham Palace said it could not comment on whether Princess Eugenie and her husband are going to be paying rent on the Crown Estate property - and if so, to whom - or how long the arrangement was due to last. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘Frogmore Cottage is the private residence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and as such any arrangements are a matter for them.’

The reported change in tenant comes after Harry and Meghan reimbursed taxpayers in full for the £2.4million used to renovate the Windsor home.

Great residence whatever the background, such privileged lives, when many newly weds struggle for a roof over their heads.

I wonder if Granny gave them the nod RnR?

How Kate Middleton's see-through dress changed royal history: She was dating a hunk called Rupert, Wills had a girlfriend who looked like a goddess... until one fateful night in St Andrews How Kate Middleton's £30 see-through dress changed royal history

As Kate Middleton (left) walked down a wooden catwalk during a Student Charity Fashion Show at the Fairmont St Andrews hotel, the object of 19-year-old Prince William's affection changed (right). Aged 20, Kate wore a see-through dress revealing her lithe figure and black underwear, to which William is said to have observed over the pounding music: 'Wow! Kate's hot!' - a curious remark given that she was already widely known at St Andrews as Beautiful Kate. But the couple were dating other people, William in a relationship with Carley Massy-Birch (bottom inset) and Kate with Rupert Finch (top inset), and within a few weeks both had quietly dropped their respective partners.

Wonder why the DM is running tacky stories like this at the moment ... guess stories like this are click bait to boost revenue.

Very successful paper with a dubious reputation and an interesting history ...

Have read DM since I was about 9 years old and the Times, my aunt used to read the Telegraph too.

This story was in all the newspapers back in the UK about the two of them when it was news.  I guess they are fishing this out thanks to the Crown, which we don't watch.
