330 million users warned to change their password

In a release on Friday, social networking website Twitter told it's 330 million members that their passwords were exposed internally.

"When you set a password for your Twitter account, we use technology that masks it so no one at the company can see it. We recently identified a bug that stored passwords unmasked in an internal log. We have fixed the bug, and our investigation shows no indication of breach or misuse by anyone."

"Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you consider changing your password on all services where you’ve used this password. You can change your Twitter password anytime by going to the password settings page."

While it was not suggested in the release, if the password you use for Twitter is the same as one you use to login to other services such as Facebook or Gmail, then it is important for you to update these passwords as well.

The most common passwords are 1234 or password.

They are safer when they contain capitals and numbers.

Mine is neither of those Tom, my password is "incorrect" because should I forget it any attempt to use a password will come up with the message; Your password is incorrect.

Tom

You would not by any chance live at 90 Mile Beach ??

Its a good idea to change passwords now and then anyway.

You can get programs that generate strong password and remember them for you.

Aibine do Blur free and its a good one. Masks emails as well. Can pay and mask credit cards.

(PS since we are all older here - it would be beneficial if fonts were larger fine on site but when typing , really smallest and grey @  Drew)
