Alan Jones’ on-air future in doubt

Alan Jones’ employer, Macquarie Media, is looking to cut the controversial broadcaster loose, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Jones’ current contract, worth a reported $4.5 million a year, expires at the end of June.

Peter FitzSimons, writing in the Sydney Morning Herald, said Jones had become a liability for Macquarie after a year of high-profile scandals and a costly legal loss.

Jones was admitted to Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital earlier this month suffering from severe back spasms that started after his broadcast from the Melbourne Cup on 6 November.

He missed his 2GB and 4BC breakfast show on November 12 and 13. At the time, 2GB said the host would be off air indefinitely.

The hospitalisation coincided with revelations that Macquarie had disciplined Jones over a series of incidents this year.

What do you think? Will you be glad to see the back of Alan Jones or will you miss him from the airwaves?

Our area doesn't get the Jones etc station but I have heard some of his work from time to time. He tends to bully people when they don't agree with him and although some of his ideas have merit, a lot are very parochial and are only applicable to a very few. What I find interesting is the man who wears a bandana to cover his circumcision scar having the gall to comment on others. Apart from criticising everybody and everything, what has he done of note to give him the right to comment on those who have achieved so much. Jones' work as a football coach and his charity work far outstrips anything bandana man has done.

Since when has it not been a right to criticise something or someone who is wrong.  Hilter achieved full employement, Mussolin made the trains run on time, both probably benefitted if they had listened to more criticism.  I know none of this compares to coaching a football team, but it must come close.

Take away the right for the common man/woman to criticise the powerful and we will go back to the days of governance by divine right where to disagree with the powerfull will get you a prison sentence or death.

Just how much good do you have to do to wipe out the bad, is it 50/50, 30/70, should you have to do more god things than bad or is it the other way round.  If you rob five banks but decide not t rob another ten banks, does that in some way make you good?

Jones actually went out to destroy people just because he could, how many good deads will expunge that from his record.

All that evil needs to thrive is for good people to do and say nothing.

Couldn't listen to him. Glad he is going.

Alan is conserving his energy so he can attend Karl Sephanovic's wedding in Mexico.

Think he is hatching another lucrative plan, hmm

The on air bullying of the Sydney Opera House chief Louise Herron because she resisted using the sails to advertise a horse race run for the benefit of the top end of town and then the later mealy mouthed disingenuous apology says it all about the character of the man.

Do us all a favour Alan , finish the show and use what influence you still have to do something worthwhile with the rest of your life.

Alan has done some good things I agree but I don't like his on air bullying, he is certainly not neutral when it comes to politics, easy to see where his loyalties lie.

Time Jones got on his bike, get rid of Kyle Sandilands too.

Think he's getting rid of himself mate, he's a very sick man at the moment.

Didn't know that, must be the sexy girlfriend wearing him down LOL

I remember hearing Alan Jones talking about the Clarence River Hydro Electric scheme. They would have built a hydro elevtric scheme using the water flowing down the Clarence river to save and store the water and provide electricity for Southern Queensland and Northern NSW and parts of South Australia. Everything was planned BUT shortly before work on it commenced BOB HAWKE ( Then Prime Minister) knocked it on the head. We would never use it and it would cost too much. He said. Well with electricity prices skyrocketing and water shortages, figures show it would have paid for itself 10 times over and reduced power and water shortages. The above information came from Alan Jones talk show. Do any of our politicions  ever listen to him. Maybe be a good thing if they did, might learn something

Might not too.

The Liberal state government did when he demanded a horse race he had an interest in be given special advertising treatment.  Yes a true visionary.
