Another Movie Review - A STAR IS BORN

Wow, Wow, Wow.

This is a fantastic movie. Bradley Cooper is terrific, I never knew he played the guitar and sang so well. Lady Gaga is just wonderful. I must admit I never cared for her with all the flamboyant outfits she wore before. But this movie has shown what an outstanding songstress she is. I always knew she didn't need all that makeup. My favourite song is the last one in the closing sceneYou can watch it on Youtube, "Ill Never Love Again", which brought tears to my eyes. I'll give it a ***** star rating. Has anybody else seen the movie yet? It does have a lot of swearing in it, and be prepared for the extra loud music.

eldest daughter saw it hola,  loved it,  esp, him,   he also directed the movie,     THE one before,   with B,STRIESAND,    was very loud,    but its that kind od music,   daughter said it was good,    i hope to go this weekend,     have already pre orderd it at J,B,    as i know ill like it,

Beautiful song HOLA..loved the Streisand movie too!

Saw it last week and really enjoyed it. I knew Lady Gaga was a great singer so it was great to see more of her. I read that Bradley Cooper had to learn to play guitar for the movie -  he nailed it and who knew he could sing as well ?

This movie should carry a warning.  My daughter saw it last week.  A particular scene triggered a severe emotional response - due to past trauma - and she landed up in hospital.

wombatwyn - I'm sorry to hear that, Would it have anything to do with the suicide scene which was very sad.

Hola, yes definitely to do with the suicide scene.  My son-in-law suicided four years ago and my daughter sadly discovered him.  Triggers are everywhere but this one was particularly potent.

At the risk of showing my age does anyone remember the original with the one and only Judy Garland and James Mason?  The song "The man that got away" still rings in my ears.  Only Garland could do it justice.  Her emotion amazing.  I will see the current one but will take it on it's own merits and not compare.

HI kit kat,   yes,  i do remember [vagualy]  the james mason one,    but i never liked judy garland,    i am going to see this new one at the weekend,  but it will have to be good to good to beat the STRISAND,    KRIS TOFF one,   the music in that was great,   ONE MORE LOOK AT YOU,      and    ARE YOU WATCHING ME NOW,  were great songs,   as was EVERGREEN,

wombatwyn - I just saw your posting and I send you my sincere sympathy. It must have been a terrible

time for your  family.

The original film starred Janet Gaynor and Frederic March; I think it was made in the 30's.

So this is the fourth version and after watching Streisand on Sunday night, it did not compare to the current one. The chemistry between them was great, the singing together was fabulous, and the songs are superb. Take the tissues with you as it is a tear jerker but that means the movie has worked when it brings those emotions out in you. Feel sorry for the lady above whose daughter had awful flashbacks and yes it could do that. 5 out of 5 for me and could sit through it again no problems but I am a Lady GaGa fan.

A Star Is Born and Reborn, and Reborn, and Reborn LOL.

1937 – Starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, produced by David O. Selznick and directed by William A. Wellman.

1954 – Starring Judy Garland and James Mason, directed by George Cukor.

1976 – Starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, directed by Frank Pierson.

2018 – Starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, who also directed.

Says a lot for the original plot and script that it remains so popular IMO.

I didn’t think much of Lady GG when she first came to popular attention, admire her now ... she has proven she is so versatile over time, e.g.

The Lady is a Tramp with Tony Bennett

I saw the film last Wednesday. Very impressive.

Well I've certainly had my fill of good movies these last couple of weeks. I saw Bohemian Rhapsody with Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury. Fantastic movie and Malek's performance should make him a contender for the Oscar's. The music was fantastic and that final scene when Queen played at the Band - Aid concert, brought a big lump to my throat. I highly recommend it. The other movie given to me by my son for my birthday is the complete first season of The Crown. Although I have only seen the first disc - only 3 more to go . It's certainly got me in.

GLAD you liked BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY,    HOLA,    i am looking forward to it,    i have managed to buy quite a bit of their music,    through e bay,    i had forgotten how good they were,      hope to see the movie after the new year,
