Apple warns users to immediately update to new operating system

Apple is urging customers to update their devices after admitting that hackers may have "actively exploited" a vulnerability in its 14.3 operating system.

The company said the vulnerabilities affect iPhone and iPad users, who should immediately update to iOS 14.4 as a precaution. A new iOS software update that includes fixes for the security weaknesses in the former version has been released.

You can find which iOS version is on your device by starting in the 'Software Update' area of the 'General' section in Settings. You can also find available software updates under the 'General' section.

The company said on its support website that it is aware of the three security bugs and that they “may have been actively exploited.” The company also said it does not disclose details regarding security issues “until an investigation has occurred.”

Apple rolled out its iOS 14 software in September with major upgrades that included widgets for the home screen and the option to choose a different web browser to Safari, which Apple has long set as the default. Other changes included incoming calls appearing in the form of a banner instead of dominating the entire screen.
