Are you tired of our politicians taking us for a ride?

julie bishop

Julie Bishop is the latest minister to hit the spotlight for charging taxpayers for dubious travel expenses. The Foreign Minister is facing questions about the 'official ministerial business' during 2014 and 2015 for which she's charged the Australian taxpayer over $11,000.

The events we've paid Ms Bishop to attend include Victorian Derby Day, the Melbourne Cup, the Bledisloe Cup ($1480) and Portsea Polo ($2820). The Spring Racing Carnival alone cost us $4345, where she attended as a guest of an airline company and an alcohol company.

If Malcolm Turnbull's own guidelines for the use of taxpayer money state that 'Ministers are expected to conduct all official business on the basis that they may be expected to demonstrate publicly that their actions and decisions ... were taken with the sole objective of advancing the public interest ...

How do you think that Ms Bishop's claims benefit us as a country?

Henry & Radish,

IF if oinks

IF It is that greedy to HOG ALL & attemps to leave nothing for somebody else

IF it behaves like a PIG

IT IS A PIG & must be called by it's proper name!

IF they treat US - The supposedly sovereign Australian TaxPayer - like we do not exist and attempt to do as they please without consideration, they DO NOT DESERVE RESPECT.

IF their actions are not challenged in a "CRIMINAL Court of Law" for the offence of "Theft & Embezelment of Public Funds" and I will get challenged for a "Minor Traffic offence" (without harming anybody) in a Civil Court (& get convicted) these CLOWNS have the "Game Rigged" and deserve to be called names.THEY HAVE BECOME OUR MASTERS whilst they supposedly are the "Servant of the People".

They remove the DIGNITY of human being who employ them, support their luxurious lifesyle.

I cannot & will not suggest you do NOTY treat tyhem nice. However, be assured they will immerse "Your & My" life deeper into slavery.

They only will understand the (lack of) quality treatment they meet out!!!

Exactly, our taxes pay their high wages which in many cases are not justified.

We are treated like numbers.

Must say I am truly disappointed in Julia.

This expense NEWS needs to be investigated......asap

Of course we can all go to contact the Prime Minister and send an email to him!

I have.

I also feel that the MPs superannuations are much in need to be cut short!

Change.org are running a petition on this, worth adding ones name to keep the pressure on and hopefully ensure something really will be done this time by Malcolm Turnbull and the outrage and promises will not be allowed to just disappear.

There are two contempt charges for which a person can be sent to gaol - contempt of court and contempt of parliament. We need a third - contempt of the people.

Very true and it would cover many politicians sins.

Excellent reward toot2000

This is a reward "Well & Truely" Earned & Deserved by many of our politicians.

Whilst this highly likely includes some of the honest ones, I am certain they "Know & Understand" (at least to some extend) what their collegues are doing and - as a consequence - are guilty because they are an accessory to the CRIMES commited.

Here is "another" one which has just come to light.

Our ex PM Kevin Rudd spent $6000 on "embossed stationery" in his failed bid to become the next Secretary of the UN.

Money is no object when the taxpayer is coughing up!

Julia Gillard was frugal...she has only spent $100 on stationery since leaving the office of PM.

Rudd's bid for UN Secretary General should have been supported by all parties, making such expenditure fully justified. Instead, the Libs played petty, local politics with it, damaging one of Australia's better chances to make a positive contribution on the world stage.

Bollocks!  No matter which way you look at $6000 is a hell of a lot of money on stationery!

If she goes to "entertainment" as their guests either she personally pays her own expenses or the company involved does. The same applies to all politicians and should apply in businesses too.

Well that how it SHOULD be but it isn't --

I also note Bishop bought a new outfit for the   POLO  -- but because would have had to pay herself she did not attend   BOO HOO

I think all travel should be at their own expense as they get paid very well and get a lot of extra's on top and the money for overnight in Canberra which they have to attend etc is being used to buy properties in wife's name and then pay her rent etc and one wonders if declared on income tax returns etc. Plus a car and all petrol paid as well as services etc on top of phone cards and phone lines and likely mobile as well these days all paid for again by taxpayers. Now we hear that partners have travel expense allowances too. Where will it end?

Meanwhile they spend a lot of time cutting out benefits for pensioners who are supposedly living high on the hog when in reality doing it tough and worse if married as have to share 1 and a half pensions for the value of that marriage certificate. Best off getting divorced and get what you paid for if worked and paid income taxes full single pension.

Labor cut the married pension yet ask any Labor voter and ignorant that it happened - was hidden because most of the news , 2009 was on the $30 for single pension extra given by Gillard.

Yep let them then claim back legitimate travel expenses but stop all the over to Europe with family paid for by us as soon as Parliament rests for winter break etc supposedly to see what they do - when all its needs is a video conference set up for most things today.

And no tribunals - its these that have allowed the Public service to get is high pays quietly as of course they themselves who award the increases are also on pay scale too and get it themselves.

Hence we have CEO of Australia Post for example about to sack hundreds of workers on a pay of wait for it 4.8 million per annum.

Now do tell me how that sort of pay is justified for a public servant ?

When its dead money in reality only return is income tax and how much does he pay on that one wonders?

Maybe someone knows ?

Seems to me the only people doing it tough today are lower paid workers and those on pension or benefits.

And benefits are being rallied for a raise - even the business council has submitted a raise needed as says too low stops them working - bit off I thought makes no sense - too low to me would mean get a job quick smart.

Poor old pensioner or low funded SFR dont get anything but kicked in the teeth.

Or rumours,  nasty ones like suggestions all should be put down when retirement age reached and their assets seized for the State. WHO?

It seems i've only been allow to comment on a few things, LIFE choices i don't like this format, please take us back to the other version, bring us back to the other style where we can comment where its wanted and not after 80  comments have been made!!!!

So much is happening in ossie right now.

So much pollution going on.

So many councillors not caring about their community, and allowing pollution to carry on like they don't care.

Some have been in too long, and not doing enough for their communities, and need to be put out to pasture. But the silly oldies too scared to change.

The world is a changing place and not for the better, i am not truly impressed one bit.

Their pollies need to be changed, me thinks its time for a revolution in Australia too.

signed NOT impressed

I am and never have been a person who takes their vote lightly and am very thankful to those who got the vote for women.

However, I am giving very serious thought to getting my name crossed off and walking out without voting in the WA election in March.  It pains me to even think of doing this but I am so disgusted with the Liberals, Barnett in particular ; do not think Labor will be any better and the alternatives all leave me cold.

Don't waste a vote, vote for the local idiot at least he knows what he is doing, just joking these 2 parties take it upon themselves to take turns at running the country go for the little person.

It is all well and good to say go for independents but it would be like heading cats in my opinion....they all will have their own agenda and what a schmozzle trying to get anything decided.

That said I have no idea who I am going to vote for in the coming West Aussie election.
